Well I threatned to leave Dh
TANNER'S MOM wrote: I was outside mowing the yard this evening when I got off work. (dh works nights). I mowed awhile and Tanner wanted to drive the riding lawnmower. So, I got off and started racking up all the grass to feed to the horses. No grass goes to waste here..lol So, My Dad was here with me. I was racking it up and he was pusing the wheelbarrow to the pasture and dumping it out.
Well I had racked up a big pile of grass and was bent over to pick up and put it in the wheelbarrow and a FREAKIN SNAKE was in my pile of grass. It was a @*#*#*#( Copperhead. It wasn't huge about 3 1/2 foot long. I didn't care, I yelled snake and I promise you I cleared that wheelbarrow. My Dad went to find it and kill it and it was gone. I made Tanner mow the whole yard again, to see if he could chop it up.
I called Dh at work and told him I am not LIVING with snakes. I am packing my stuff and moving to TOWN...asap! I promised we would get some stuff for the yard this weekend. lol I hate snakes. I swear to you, I had to change my britches! This is the 3rd snake we have killed already. The neighbors don't mow at all on two sides of us! I hate them too I think!
So, now I have had heart attack and I want to move. I have goats, horses, chickens and dogs in the yard..oh yeah and a mean Mama cat, and not one darn thing can kill a snake!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: You want me to send Kosciusko on up? I had heeps the whole time I was feeding tonight and then a %^$#&*( spider jumped on my arm! .........
luvmykids replied: OH.MY.GOD!!!!!!!!
I am glad to hear you have a sense of humor about it because I sure wouldn't I tell DH all the time I've about had enough of this country girl stuff ...I tell him I plead stupidity because I didn't know what I was getting into
Our neighbor doesn't mow either....we let a horse sneak into his grass about two weeks ago and he hasn't even noticed yet Free feed and hopefully get rid of some snakes
MoonMama replied: We do have a couple extra rooms Mel, if you need them!
Boys r us replied: OMG! OMG! OMG! I would have flipped out!
sparkys2boys replied: Ughhh I can't imagine having snakes around. Do you not worry about the kids out in the yard and stuff? I would be to afraid to ever leave the house..lol
lovemy2 replied: No snakes in upstate NY and we have a horse around the corner from us - best of both worlds - feel free to come on up - we'll put you up
Boys r us replied: There are reallly no snakes in NY? Is it b/c it's too cold up there or what?
MommyToAshley replied: YIKES!!!!
Now I remember why I don't live in the country! You are a braver woman than I am.
Danalana replied: We have lots of snakes around...luckily, I haven't seen any of the poisonous ones. My BIL will stop his vehicle if he sees one....not so that he can kill it, but so that he can pick it up AND my FIL catches them and keep them in his barn...I'm tellin' you, I'm surrounded by weirdos!
My2Beauties replied: Oh God I would have packed my bags that night...I'm deathly afraid of snakes, insects or bugs of any sort. I freaked out because one of the stupid spider crickets were in our tub the other morning....ACK I had DH kill it and flush it down the toilet. I definitely couldn't deal with a snake, much less a copperhead.
lisar replied: Mel i know how you feel. I hate those darn things. We have killed probably already 15 snakes this year alone. Most of them cottonmouths. We have killed one copperhead though. And a few that I think werent poisnois, but hey if they are snakes they are dead.
Sorry your dealing with this.
HuskerMom replied: Why does he do that, to kill mice?
Our cat got in trouble the other day and the next morning he had brought us an "I'm sorry gift". Dh got up and the cat had brought a snake he had killed. I'm just glad Dh found it and not me! And now the cat's been watching the back door alot so I assume there's another snake in the garage.
holley79 replied: Poor Mel. You need some Geese girl!! Our geese use to always kill snakes when I was growing up. Annika brought me a gardner snake yesterday if it makes you feel any better.
coasterqueen replied: Ooh I hate snakes. Dh laughs at me because when I see one I run and go inside until he kills it. I've seen them quite a bit while out on the mower and I can promise you I go after them as fast as I can trying to chop them up.
I see a lot less with the cat around. I wonder why your dogs or cats aren't taking care of them. Our cat gets everything.
A&A'smommy replied: YUCK I HATE snakes!!!!!
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well YES I worry about the kids being in the yard and stuff. I never did before then. I have made the kids rake grass and carry to the horses a million times! Never again. But I can't keep them inside all the time. My kids aren't like a lot of kids on here though. They WILL not ever pick up a snake ever! They know better. They dont' know if it's poison or not. Every snake is a dad snake around here. I don't care about the enviroment of snakes, the good snakes versus the bad snakes, because they ALL give me a heart attack and could really KILL me. It's survival of the fittest, me or them!
Dh went and got some stuff today and put out. I also put out moth balls. The snakes hate the smell. So they are under all my porches and under my house.
The place were the snake was will soon be fenced off for pasture too. I am sure the horses will stomp them out but good.
We used to have alot of water mocasions, but since we no longer have a pond that solved that. But I didn't mind them as much. They stayed in the water and I stayed out of the water. We knew our boundaries! My house dog did get bit many times, she has a hole through her ear where she can wear an earring b/c of them! She was so sick!
I wish I could move to town at times like that...but then what would I do in town?? lol I would be the most hated neighbor in town, I promise you!
luvmykids replied: The only poisonous ones we have here are the rattlers....I've been telling them in GA they can't pick up snakes b/c it's not so easy to tell which are ok and which aren't. We probably should start practicing that now
redchief replied: Snakes are nuthin'. At least you all don't have (~~~shudder) tourists!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Why is it called tourist season if you can't shoot them?
