MommyToAshley replied: Hello and welcome! I hope we get to have the chance to get to know you better. It's always nice to have another "Dee" on the board.
Sakeloonie replied: Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I suppose since I've been "around" so long and know pretty much all of you it's only fair to tell you some about me.
I lived in Kansas for 38 years until I packed up and moved to Toronto, ON. I've been married to Gus for 6 years, SAHM to Lance for 4 years (yes, I'm a mother of what they politely call "advanced maternal age").
Lance is a little joy - most of the time. He's a happy, smart, affectionate little guy. I'd post a picture and will if I ever figure out how. Gus is in law enforcement.
Sorry it's taken me so long to come out of hiding. I used to post occasionally back in the days that guests could post. Usually though, if I had a question about pregnancy/motherhood someone would ask it before I got up the nerve to ask, so I just kept lurking.
Anyway, thanks again for the welcome!
Dee

I am also a mother of *cough* advanced maternal age (41)- though when I first started having kids I was 27. I have 3 kids- 14, 11, and 4. I work full time as a textile designer, am married since 1990, and live in the Catskill Mtns in NY state. Looking forward to getting to know you better- and thanks for coming out of lurkdom for Amy's benefit- I am certain your post was of great comfort to her.

Kimberly to answer your question as to why I moved - short answer - I fell in love.
Long answer - summer 1998, my 36th birthday, lonely, depressed, drank a few beers, logged onto the computer and joined the backgammon ladder at Yahoo. Got up the nerve to play a few games, made a couple of friends. About a month later I played a guy who worked and worked to make me laugh (and he did). We played more and more often then started phoning. In October he drove to KC and I drove to KC (not a fair trade, 3 hours for me, 21 for him) hit it off fabulously. I first visited TO in December, then he came down again in March. In the meantime I had been informed that my position at the bank I worked out had FINALLY been eliminated (I was waiting for them to pay me to leave lol). With my 9 months of severance pay I decided it was time to take a chance so I came back for 3 weeks in May and our decision was made. Went back home, fixed up my house, put it on the market, sold it, put my stuff in storage, and came back up semi-permanently in September.
We found out just before Christmas that year (1999) that my Mom had cancer that was probably terminal (it was) so I spent the next year bouncing back and forth, a month in Kansas with my Mom, a month here with him. We decided to go ahead and get married in July so we made an appointment at a little chapel in Niagara Falls. After that we filed the immigration papers. Mom passed Dec. 27 that year and I officially "landed" in Canada in April, 2001.
Losing my job was such a blessing, it gave me a chance to spend much more time with Mom than I would have otherwise, and gave me a chance to follow my heart. I only wish now that Dad lived closer but that's another book.
If anyone made it this far, I TOLD you this was the long version lol. I'm going to try to attach a wedding picture.
Dee
mom2my2cuties replied: That is a GREAT picture and what a sweet story!!!
MommyToAshley replied: Oh wow... you are beautiful!!! What a great wedding picture, you both look so happy. As I was reading your story, I thought to myself that things really do happen for a reason.
Sakeloonie replied: AHA it worked! Okay here is one of our little guy playing with stickers the other day. And I made a yahoo album of him since I've seen all your little ones grow up thought I'd show you him. Let me know it the link doesn't work.
