Weightloss and breastfeeding
two2luv wrote: I have been working with a personal trainer for the last few weeks. I have been eating healthy and excercising everyday. I can tell that I am building muscle and stamina but I haven't seemed to have lost any fat. I have heard that while breastfeeding it is more diffcult to lose fat because your body wants to hang on to it "just in case". Anyone know anything about this? I am getting frustrated!! Does anyone have any information on weightloss and breastfeeding?
kit_kats_mom replied: I would check kellymom.com to see if there is any info there. I lost a ton of weight while I was breastfeeding. In fact, I swear it helped me lose the extra 20lbs of fat I had before I got pregnant with her. I did weight watchers breastfeeding plan and got down to my goal weight right before I got pregnant with this second baby. I did lose all of the baby weight within the first 5 months or so though.
two2luv replied: so apparently I am the only one who has heard of this because every site I go to says that I should have no problems losing this extra fat. I guess that I expected to be able to lose weight the way I could BEFORE I had kids. LOL
You just would think with all my cardio and weight training that I would see results more quickly......
alice&arik replied: I would give it some more time. Maybe you need to get your metabolism back on track. Are you eating a lot of protein too? A lot of protein and not so many carbs should help with working out that much. Where did you find a personal trainier? Is it expensive?
MommyToAshley replied: I also read that BF will help you to lose your weight quicker, but it didn't work for me. It seemed like I was hungry all the time when I was BF. My normal weight was 130lbs and I got up to 200lbs during my PG. (And, I only ate healthy foods too). I still have 20 lbs to go to get back down to my normal weight, but I've had that much to go for a really long time. (All 20 lbs of it is in my gut) I think I need a personal trainer too! I agree with Alice, give it some time and I am sure you will see results.
two2luv replied: I have been eating almost exclusively "whole foods" as in - if it doesn't grow that way, don't eat it! Lots of fruits and veggies, lean meats, whole grains, no extra salt or sugar or fat added. If I eat only those foods I can eat whenever I am hungry. My trainer says that we listen to our bodies when ever we have a headache or when we have to go to the bathroom, so why do we ignore our body when it says its hungry? Makes sense to me! Anyway, by eating only whole foods your body will automatically adjust it's hunger and caloric intake to a healthy level. I joined Lifetime Fitness - it cost me 500 bucks for 8 sessions but it's already totally worth it. I haven't been able to run since high school (seven years ago) but yesterday I ran nearly three miles. I FEEL that my body is changing, I just wish that it would SHOW it!
two2luv replied: Dee Dee - I carry all my extra weight in my gut too. I hate that. I have lost about 10 pounds since my husband left for Iraq but I think that it was 10 pounds of butt. LOL I still wear the same size pants I just don't fill them out as much!
Mom2Boyz replied: Don't worry, you're not alone. I've had a terrible time losing weight since Conner was born. I lost about 25 pounds within the first 2 months, but nothing since then. It seems like I'm hungry all the time!! I'm only a few pounds off of my pre pregnancy weight, but I was about 30 pounds overwieght before getting pg.
irinam replied: I too held on to extra 10lbs while b/feeding. I have read in many publication that b/feeding helps you loose weight - not me.
Though I was skinny to start with before my pregnancey, so may be my body said - "you are not getting to that level while you are b/feeding"
I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight about 3-4 month after my DD weaned herself.
The way you are eating is great and sensible - that's it totally my approach.
I would not worry about loosing weight too much yet if I were you, you'll get there eventually. Especially with the way you are eating.
amynicole21 replied: I was back down to pre-pregnancy weight within 3 months of delivery, but that was still about 40lbs over my ideal weight I havent' been able to lose anything else since, and seem to have even gained a bit I don't know what to tell you, except all of your excercise and good eating is going to pay off soon. Remember, the more muscle you have, the faster the fat will melt away.
MomToMany replied: I've been nursing for over 2 years straight now, and I haven't lost much weight. I'm back down to my pre-pregnancy weight with Kayla, but nothing else is leaving. I'm "over-weight", but won't state my real weight. I'm real paranoid about it. I just need to jump start my metabolism somehow.
coasterqueen replied: I am breastfeeding and while it helped some, it didn't take away all the weight gain. I had also had a bit of extra weight on me before pg. I had to do WW in order to lose the weight. BF did help me lose weight in areas I never thought I would ever lose there, like my thighs and a bit in my butt .
