WWYD - dishwasher?
coasterqueen wrote: Ok, Our dishwasher, which is still in good condition has been recalled. We have the choice of either having it fixed, getting a $300 rebate on a new one or doing nothing. The dishwasher is about 8 years old. We figured we'd get a new one, use the rebate and out of pocket it would cost us about $500. My dilemma, if you can call it that, is whether to go with white (which is what all my kitchen appliances are now) or stainless steel. We will not replace any of the other kitchen appliances until they completely wear out and IMO fridges and stoves seem to last a lot longer than one wants them too.
So should I go with white or have one odd ball stainless steel appliance? I thought about going with white because by the time I finally get to change the others the dishwasher will crap out. They usually don't last too terribly long anyways.
So WWYD?
Jamison'smama replied: I'd go with white---a mismatched kitchen would drive me nuts
moped replied: Stick with white - I don't knwo how all white applicanes would look and one white dishwasher!
coasterqueen replied: See now that's been my thinking, but I keep second guessing myself. If only Dh would just let me have all new stainless steel appliances this wouldn't be such a dilemma for me.
grapfruit replied: Get a new one that matches. And BTW, where the heck are you getting your dishwasher??? I thought under the counter ones were fairly inexpensive.
I know when we were buying a roll around one last year I was getting mad b/c the portable ones were WAY more expensive then the "regular" dishwashers... You should be able to find a NICE one for maybe a $100 more?
coasterqueen replied: Well my dishwasher is a GE Profile. I can get the same exact one for $400, so it would only cost me $100 out of pocket, but I'm going with a Profile with more bells and whistles so that's why it's going to cost more. Not sure WHY I'm doing that as I don't use the dishwasher anyways, Dh does and our dishwasher does a great job.
If I just get a regular GE dishwasher which are really cheap, GE will only give me $150 instead of $300 rebate on a profile. But still if I went with a regular profile like the one I have it would only be $100 out of pocket.
Dishwashers have gone up considerable IMO since I bought mine 8 years ago.
Oh and we are looking at Dick Van Dyke (which is where we bought all of our appliances), Sears and Best Buy- all comparable in price.
moped replied: My friend just bought all new stainless appliances and was actually disappointed because it made her kitchen look WAY smaller........they are nice but those fingerprints would drive me to drink - MORE!
coasterqueen replied: Yes they would me too, and this is why DH isn't giving in to me because he KNOWS I will complain 24/7 about the prints. Just the prints I see on my white ones drive me nuts.
moped replied: I have a stainless steel garbage can and it makes me crazy - always polishing the thing!
holley79 replied: I would go with white. The diswasher is going to bite the dust before the fridge and stove does anyway. Having a stainless steel with other white would drive me batty and then I would HAVE to change out the rest of the appliances. Now if you want to jump start an overhaul of the kitch then by all means go with SS.
BabyOwen427 replied: I just bought a new Sears Kenmore Elite Dishwasher and I love it. It's white on the outside to match my appliances but the inside is stainless, which makes the clean dishes POP! out. We spend about $800 for ours but we get no interest till next Aug. I'd say go white to match your kitchen. Good luck!!
jacobsmama replied: I agree white!!!!!!!!
kimberley replied: yup, go white!
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. I have definitely decided on white. Although now I'm trying to decide on getting the cheapy one or the expensive one with all the bells and whistles I don't need. Dh informed me last night I could look at a new washer and dryer if I got the cheapy dishwasher. Not sure if he was serious or not, so we'll see.
grapfruit replied: Dick Van Dyke has a store??????
