WWYD - Buyer beware sort of question
moped wrote: OK, so have a pile of stuff I am selling on Kijiji.........a woman came by tonight for my wedding decorations, purse, pen set etc........$30 for everything which I thought was a steal to be honest. The decorations included 4 strings of indoor mini pearl lights. I also threw in for free a big satin wedding album and some unopened floating flowers for the guest book table and a candelabra thingy and 2 candles because I liked her. She just calls me and said that one of the lites (one lite not a full string) doesn't work and did I hav emore replacements, which I don't because I gave her everything, then she says for me to think about it and call her tomorrow.
I don't know, I think she got a pile of stuff for a good price and honestly they all worked a few weeks ago so whatever is kind of what I am thinking, but now I feel sort of bad.
What would you guys do????
jacobsmama replied: When you buy something like that, I think most people are just excited to get such a good deal. I can't believe she had the nerve to call you BACK and complain!!!
that is just crazy to me!!! Rude in fact...You are not in wrong..YOu gave her a great deal!!
moped replied: So what do I do then??????
Calimama replied: Tell her to come back over and you'll give her a dollar back for the one messed up light.
stella6979 replied: I would just apologize and tell her that all sales are final. If they worked when you had them, she must have done something and if it just burnt out....oh well. Crap happens!!!
JulieJ replied: You're not a retail store; this is used stuff. Expect perfection when one buys new. I agree all sales are final.
luvmykids replied: That would tick me off, especially if she didn't ask if you could plug them in for her to see if they work. Are they like Christmas lights where one loose or bad bulb can make the whole strand not work? Maybe suggest she check that and tell her (if you know) where she could get a new bulb.
mckayleesmom replied: I would tell her to go to the store and see if they had some matching bulbs...chances are that it is one bulb that is out..
gr33n3y3z replied: Since its just ONE light only all sale items are final
Our Lil' Family replied: Something similar happened to me. A lady came over to buy my old digital camera. I explained all the things that were wrong with it, it was over 4 years old, she knew ALL of this. She gets home, emails me mad about a chip on the camera. HELLO WOMAN, do you think it was brand new??? I told her, sorry she was unhappy but she saw it before she handed me the cash. In your case the woman should have asked to plug in the lights...and I mean, ONE BULB, give me a break...a new pack would probably have one burnt!
MommyToAshley replied: I could see her point if the entire string didn't work... but to be upset over one bulb is a bit ridiculous. It's probably cost her 99cents at the store to replace it. Plus, I find it odd that she didn't ask to plug them in before she bought it.
lisar replied: She should have plugged them in when she got them. If not then all sales are final
I would tell her that they worked last week when you tried them. And explain to her that she got a great deal on ALL that stuff.
