Very upsetting farm incident! (long) - Some parts graphics, animals involved
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Okay a few months ago I bought Justin and Tanner baby rabbits. We had two baby rabbits that looked a lot alike! Well one morning we went out to feed and one baby was completely missing.
Only thing different that day was the neighbor boy came down to play the day before.
Okay, forward to Sunday. Neighbor boy was down here trying to play with Tanner. Tanner doesn't like him really. Tanner was mowing the yard. Stopped mowing played about 10 minutes and said I have to do my chores. The boy hung around for a while and played with the dogs and stuff. When Tanner went to the barn to feed, Tanner said he went with him too. (Background on boy, he is was adopted this year by neighbors, he had been in so many foster homes and they couldn't place him that he was living on a boys ranch. The neighbor doesn't usually let him come down here b/c she says he has issues and she just likes to keep him close. I have always been nice to him and let him play. Tanner does say he is weird but he isn't rude to him.)
Okay fast forward to Monday morning when I leave for work. I walk out to get in my car and one of my rabbits is laying in the yard died. I mean this is a huge buck that weighs about 15lbs. I am like what the crap?? Was it an animal? I go yell at my husband to go check the barn b/c of my baby rabbits. And I have to hurry b/c I am going to be late for work. He calls me and says, It's not good. That my doe , the Momma to the babies is completely missing. He said both cages where completely shut and still latched. He said that no hair was laying around like a coon or dog got them. He said the babies were still in the nest, but no MOMMA! I was so upset. The Momma was my favorite rabbit. She was very gently and pretty and just had those 2 little babies.
Well you just can't bottle feed rabbits. I dont' know anyone who has succesfully done it. But Dh went to the store and got milk replacer to give them a bit. I called our 4H leader and asked her if she knew anyone who had a rabbit on the nest. She gave me a ladies name and I called her. Last night we took the babies to her house and she put them in the nest with her Momma and the momma went ahead and took them. They were already sucking when we left. I feel so bad and I wanted those babies bad!!! But maybe now they won't die!
Well, we think it was the neighbor boy. The buck rabbit was very heavy and wild. If you picked him up he went crazy and I think the boy picked him up and he went crazy and he dropped him. Then I think the dogs killed him. I have no idea where my Momma is. I haven't seen the boy's Mom, but I did stop his older sister and tell her this is the 2nd time this has happened. I have now lost 3 rabbits and every time it's always after this boy comes to visit. I asked her if he was home about 9 the night before or still out playing and she said she didn't know b/c they weren't home just him and his 15 year old brother were at home!
I am just hot! I am mad mad mad! She was going to be one of Tanner's show rabbits for the fair. They have a doe and litter class and he was going to say them all! It just makes me mad! I cried a bit. Out of 14 rabbits I only have 2 I really care about. She was one and my big buck!

whitting713 replied: I'm so sorry!
lisar replied: I wouldnt be letting that boy come and play anymore at all.
luvmykids replied: Ditto....there really is no other explanation I can think of. I'm sorry about your rabbits
mckayleesmom replied: I would be contacting the authorities. Maybe he left some finger prints and they can get him to pay for the damage he did hurting those rabbits.
Nina J replied: Terrible. If it was the boy, it's disturbing.
The law here is that you can be imprisioned for animal cruelty. I remember a few months ago a guy who beat up a puppy was sentenced to 12 months jail.
My2Beauties replied: That is terrible. I wouldn't let that boy come over anymore and see if it happens again! I'm so sorry, poor rabbits
