Update on my nephew - Peyton

mckayleesmom wrote: He is doing good...He is still very much baby like, but he now has a little bit of muscle strength in his neck. He is also eating baby food now. He turns 2 in May. A while back they had a custom made carseat built for him...since he is so big and doesn't have neck muscles very much, they needed him to still be rear facing. My sister found a company that makes them and they make them based on the childs measurments and body type. I think it was like 5 thousand dollars. They just got him his first wheelchair type stroller deal...it was 11,000 unsure.gif , but they had help with that...they enrolled him in a program that pays for the stuff he needs until he is 18. They also got him a bathtub thing so he can sit up and is soon going to be fitted for braces for his legs. Im not really sure what the braces do, since he doesn't walk. My guess is they help his legs grow at the right angles since thier is no muscles built in them. Other then that,,,he is doing good. Still going to therapy. He had an EKG and a MRI done a while back....I think they are still waiting for the results of 1 of them and one of them came back normal.

CAMSMOM1 replied: I think I missed the original post about Peyton, what medical condition does he have? Poor thing. But it sounds like he has the best parents, that love & support him. I hope the carseat, bathtub & braces work out for him. I'm sure it'll really help him to become more independant & give him the support he needs. That's great they are getting assistance that covers that, I'm sure it's a huge burden off their shoulders. I would love to see a picture of your nephew, he sounds like a sweetheart. wub.gif I'm glad he is doing better. hug.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
They are not exactly sure what is wrong with him....He will be 2 in May and he has the capabilities of a 4 or 5 month old....actually less. They are pretty sure is some form of retardation (ugh..I hate that word), but not exactly what kind.

CAMSMOM1 replied:

I'm so sorry to hear that. sad.gif I can imagine how difficult that must be for his parents. Not knowing, can almost be worse than knowing what's going on. I pray they will find the answers to this, and that the new equipment can help him along in this process. hug.gif

jacobsmama replied: I'm glad they are getting assitance but that would be so hard to "not know" what is wrong with your child and how to help them ya know? hug.gif hug.gif
