Update on dh. - long..thanks for all your concern
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Okay we went to the doctor this morning and Randy was really scared. The doctor said he wanted to discuss his labs in person. He was fearing death, cancer, painful test etc. But when we got there he went over the test results and said that it is a tick borne illness. He said his white blood count was more than double so it was a huge infection. He said that his bands(?) were more than doubled also..which goes along w/ the white blood cells. He said that his liver enzymes were only slightly high, which really pleased him b/c it meant that they got to it quickly. Randy fever had broke and he said that meant the antibiotics were working. He stressed how serious this illness could be and he said one reason he wanted to see Randy was b/c a lot of times you ask a patient on the phone if they are okay and they just say Yes, he said he wanted to look him in the eye and make sure he didn't need to be in the hospital. He said he was on call all holiday weekend (lucky him!) and that if anything changed, if Randy threw up one time, if his fever came back or his headache got worse to call him at the hospital and have him paged. He said he would meet us in the ER and have him admitted ASAP.
He also said if any one in how family has any kind of tick bite then to call him b/c he was going to start them on the doxcycycline. He said especially in children it's a too big risk too take.
He said Randy doesn't have Rocky Mtn Tick Fever, he has a type that is only in Arkansas. It's called Fort Chaffee fever. He said it's the same as RMTF but it doesn't have the telling rash. He said they discovered years ago when the soldier who were in basic at Fort Chaffee which is not even an hour from here, would get deathly ill. They soon figured out it was the ticks and that there was no rash like with the other. Basically the same disease side effects and all. But just no rash.
He also told us that when they do the tick tittiers test that it is on accurate 20-30% of the time. Which is what causes the misdiagnosis and sometimes unfortunately death.
Also when Abbie's brother had RMTF, they found at the neighbor had just moved in from Arkansas and brought horses w/ her. Which are huge carriers of ticks.
I was very impressed w/ this doctor. He is not usually Randy's doctor. But his doctor couldn't get him in yesterday and we were referred to this guy and I am glad we were. I am not sure someone else would've found it so fast.
Dh is on the mend I think. But the Dr. said his body is weak and it would take time.
On a side note.. the doctor is HOT.. I mean McSteamy/McDreamy hot. You know what the bad thing about a hot doctor is, they only see when you are at your worse. When you are sick, your breath smells like vomit and your hair is matted to the side of your head..lol
Oh another funny. Recently my duck died. Something killed it. And we didn't see any ticks until the duck died. Ducks are great at eating ticks and flies. I told the Doctor this and he said you mean Ducks eat ticks, and then I eat duck. I said yes that's right. He said he wouldn't be eating duck any more.
Okay on a funny side note. The clerk at the doctors office really started laughing at me. She was on the phone making an appointment and we were waiting. They had a jar of free pens from the Drug Reps. I told Dh that I was always scared to take those pens I am afraid I will be using them and the drug they are advertising for will be for herpes or something. She started cracking up and had to put the people on hold. She said that is the funniest I have heard all day! She asked me if I was a pen person, and she went thru the free pens and gave me all her favorites. She assured me they were not advertising for herpes so I could write a check w/ them.
Boo&BugsMom replied: That is WONDERFUL Mel!!! What a praise! I will still keep on prayin.
msoulz replied: Thank goodness they caught this early and he is on the mend. And the hot doc is an added bonus!!
To your family and prayers for his speedy recovery.
luvmykids replied: LMAO about the hot doctor....it is sadly SO true
But most importantly, I'm glad he figured it out so quickly and that Randy is on the mend, what an awful scare
I bet you made everyones day in that office, usually when people are at their worst their wife isn't so funny
mammag replied: I'm so glad to hear he's on the road to recovery and that you've kept your sense of humor through it all!
I am completely feeling you on the doctor thing. Heck, I very much prefer an ugly doctor because I know I'm pretty much going to look ridiculous when I'm there. I don't even like the kids to have a nice looking doctor because then I might have to make a last minute appt if they are sick and I'll look stupid..... my goodness I really AM insecure.
Continued prayers and positive thoughts for you guys!
stella6979 replied: So glad to hear the good news Mel!!

TANNER'S MOM replied: Thank you guys so much for thinking of us.
I think I was having one of those days that if you don't laugh you gotta cry. I didn't want to cry. I wanted to think positive.
Thanks again guys!
