Update on Spencer - Sorry Very Long
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: I'm sorry that I haven't been around much. I do check the board and read some of the posts, but the computer is in the basement and Emily's is usually using it (this is were her room is). And then when she's asleep I don't want to come down and use it, because it might keep her up.
Anyway, Spencer has had a rough week. He was assessed by the Critical Care Unit (CCU) earlier this week, to determine if he needed to be brought down there for more respiratory support. He's had a fever now for 7 days, it goes up and then comes down, but for the most part it's usually up around 40 C. He has had numerous x-rays and now they are now trying to determine if they will do the Bronchoscopy (where they would go down his windpipe with a small camera, flush his lungs with fluid and then draw back the fluid. The fluid would then be sent to the lab for analysis).
Spencer fell out of bed yesterday. No one knows how it happened, but they suspect that he soiled his bed and got up to get fresh clothes when his legs gave out on him. When the nurse got to his room he was on the floor, incoherant, they called DH at 3:40 in the morning to tell him to come back to the hospital. They sent Spencer for a CT scan of his head and an x-ray of his chest to make sure that his line was still positioned right. My poor guy! I can't tell you how much it breaks my heart hearing all this news and there is nothing I can do.
This morning at 6:30 DH was called, Spencers oxygen levels dropped to the low 80's and he had a hard time getting back up to the 90's even thought he was on 50% oxygen. They had the CCU come and assess him and he was brought down there this morning. They have him hocked up to a machine called a By-Pap machine. It's simmilar to a C-Pap machine (if anyone has sever snoring issues you might know what this is). DH was referred to a sleep clinic and he has severe sleep apnea, he has a C-Pap machine because he stops breathing while he is sleeping. Anyway this machine blows air into Spencer lungs, which helps to keep his lungs inflated and allow him to cough more. They want him to cough, to losen up whatever infection is in his lungs.
DH told me that it looks like Spencer is actually resting comfortably and told me not to worry. I'm on the verge of tears right now, I just feel awful for Spencer and I miss him so much!
