Update on Jakob - endoscope and alergies
boyohboyohboy wrote: ok, well the endoscope went ok. he tolerated as well as any one yr old would. but the procedure was minor, and she saw no evidence of GERD, and no physical abnormalities. there were several biopsies sent just to be sure and they wont be back for a week. then the allergiest called. he said jake is allergic to, almonds, apple, beef, broccoli, blue cheese, cheese, choc, milk, eggs, soy, avacado, green beans, fish, oats, onions, orange, peanuts, tree nuts, rice, wheat, peas.. he said that was the short list, and he wanted to go over it more in person next week.. has anyone else dealt with something like this??? no wonder the kid is doing nothing but throwing up and having diarrhea, I keep wondering how all this happened, how does one get this allergic? anyway, we are no better off then when we started and have no idea whats going to happen next..
did I mention this is slightly stress ful
PrairieMom replied: I have a friend that was recently told that she was allergic to nearly everything. She went to a holisitc Dr who tested her. He took her off about every food except for almonds and one or 2 other things, and put her on a bunch of supplements, and she feels tons better. I don't know much about it tho.
Maybe that would be the rout to take?
amymom replied: Oh Gosh! I have no experience with this. But I am glad you are doing something about it all. ~~~Calming Vibes~~~ for mom. Caleb's surgery is soon too! Please continue to take care of yourself as well.
Our prayers continue.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: OH WOW!!! LOTS of prayers for you! I am really sorry you are going through all this and poor Jake too!
CantWait replied: Oh gosh, certainly not good news. Sorry, hopefully there's a way to work around it, and he gives you some suggestions.
momof2girls replied: poor baby! Im sure it is stressful!!!!
hoosier momma replied: I am so sorry you have to go through all of this and poor Jake. Hopefully the allergist can give some suggestion on how to move forward when you see him in person. Best of luck to you and many prayers!
lovemy2 replied: Oh wow, I am sorry to hear that but look at the positive side of it all....at least you are getting some concrete answers and with those answers will come some solutions.....which hopefully will begin to make him feel better which in turn will eliminate some stress on you!! Poor Jake - I certainly hope he starts to feel better soon....
lisar replied: Oh wow thats alot of things. I am sorry I dont know anything about it.
sparkys2boys replied: The poor lil guy. I havent had to deal with this stuff so no real advice to give. Prayers though that you can get it all worked out.
DansMom replied: Oh Stacy, my heart sinks reading that list. Keep in mind that when allergic kids are that young, they will show reactions to a number of things that they are currently tolerating or that as they get older they will tolerate just fine. I have a feeling Daniel was reacting to soy and wheat at that age, although he could eat them without severe reactions and now he's fine with those.
I also want to point out that several things on that list are in the same category (cheese, blue cheese, and milk are in the same "milk protein" category; almond is one of the tree nuts, so needn't be listed separately). What I would find discouraging is that there are so many starches on the list. Rice, for example, is one of those things that allergic people usually get to have. However, I don't see potato on the list---that may be the starch for Jake, hopefully. The allergist will surely have advice on how to proceed with his diet. Getting the reactions to go away will ultimately restore his appetite, even if he's eating just one or two foods---it will be better that he's eating just a few things and keeping those down. I can remember long periods of time when Daniel only ate pears, peaches and banana in small quantities. Coconut milk may be an option for you---I used to think it was a nut, so was avoiding it, but Daniel's allergist informed me that it's in the date/palm family, not a nut despite its name. It's loaded with healthy fats and you can make a drink out of it. Maybe ask your allergist what he thinks about trying that?
The feeling of "How on Earth did this happen to my kid?" I recognize so well. There are theories that environmental toxins combined with genetic factors have created the increase we're seeing in asthma, food allergies, autism, and various autoimmune disorders. I tend to believe this theory, but it doesn't solve our problem. What I do know is that it isn't our fault---we did everything we knew to do taking care of ourselves while pregnant and nurturing our little ones.
There is so much on your plate! Take deep, slow breaths and trust that you are approaching some answers.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oh my gosh Stacy, I'm sorry! That doesn't leave a whole lot that he can eat does it? Poor Jake. I can't imagine how stressful this is for you. Hopefully like Tracy said he will grow out of most of them in time! KUP!
