Update on Cookie~ - and a Thank you!(a little long)
punkeemunkee'smom wrote: First I would like to say THANK YA'LL! for all the positive thoughts and prayers that were sent up today for Cookie and us. I know that to more than a few the concern over a cow is probably a little but I really appreciate the kind words from all who have given them in the past 2 weeks!
Cookie is still with us this afternoon.Thankfully because she is 2 weeks old today and it was so sad to me to lose her on her 'weekly' birthday After alot of discussion with the vet and some signs of improvment from lastnight (she got up and walked and even ran a bit and wants her bottles ) We have decided, baring another set of seizures, to see if some very heavy doses of vitamins and antibodies improve her condition. Meningitis can be mimiced by several illnesses in cattle-and the bacteria we are fighting are very strong-BUT her body is trying and since she is now comfortable and alert,Bill and I and even our vet couldn't put her down with out one more big push for recovery. We will try this last course 2 big gun antibiotics and the vitamins today, continuing with the IV vitamins tomorrow and as long as no relapse this next full week and hoping for a RECOVERY by then. We have also done some immune suppressant drugs to try and allow her body to rest and the drugs to do their job-who knew- but cows, especially calves, can and do have febrial seizures so the vet is hopeful that if we keep her temp down (crushed asprin in her bottles-which the little toot can taste and will try and turn her nose up at ) we will not see anymore of those and She will have a chance to rally. IF she stops eating on her own or seems to be in pain we will of course have to remap our course again. But for now I am hopeful. Her breathing is a little labored but she is still running a low fever so that is not totally abnormal. She does sit up or stand up and take notice of Tay and I when we go outside- I just gave her her 2nd antibiotic shot so it needs some time to work....I will keep you all as updated as I can. once again THANK YOU all for helping me through this-she has really become a major part of our lives very quickly-maybe because I have felt like I gave birth to a 70lb. baby for the past 2 weeks.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Thanks everyone! She knocked me flat on my butt this morning and drug Bill around the yard on the lead lastnight so those are good signs right?!? I will say one thing about this whole experience...it has really reminded me that people DO care (the vet has been so helpful and has minimized his fees,ya'll have offered support, people stop and smile and point her out to their kids when they pass by). It has also strengthened my faith that God really does know what is going on in my life,He does want good things for us and He really does have his eye on the 'sparrow'.....The vet can't explain why Cookie has not passed away even with all our help and no matter how this all turns out I feel like I have been shown the power of prayer and love and been part of something that has brought a smile to more than one face. I have seen my beautiful daughter hold the head of a sick animal and whisper words of encouragement to her, I have seen compassion and responsibility, I have heard true pure faith when she says 'Mommy can we pray for Cookie?',I have adored the belly laughs at Cookie butting me for another bottle or chasing us around the yard and laughed in the same way when Taylor tries to 'moo talk' and for those things...no matter what-I am thankful
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm so glad to hear she's doing well!! My girls love it when you post pictures of her.
