Update on Aron....

mummy2girls wrote: Aron called after he saw the doctor for his blood work. He has diabetes. OH MY!!!!! Now jenna is even in a higher risk group for diabetes! MY dad has it, my dads mom had it, my dads brothers( 2 of them) and one of my dads sisters has it, a couple cousins on my dads side has it. Aron has it, his mom has it, arons moms sister has it and a couple of his cousins has it! OH MY!!!!!!

Talk about scarey! At least he can be given meds and hopefully he will change his way of eating and smarten up! I feel a bit better that it isnt anything worse than that! The type of diabetes he has is type 2 so he wont have to have insulin shots, he just needs to have a better way of eating and be careful how much sugar he eats....

ctymom replied: I'm happy to hear that it was figured out. Nothing worse than not knowing what's up. And thankfully he doesnt have to have the shots! I would be in big trouble if I ever had to do that. I couldnt.

aspenblue1 replied: That is good they figured it out and he can take meds to control it.

A&A'smommy replied: my mom and grandmother have and no telling who else, it is scary but its also probably a good idea for you to get checked at any sign of anything usual. I hope that he will get smart and start eating right, its hard but better than ending up in the hospital! Hopefull Jenna will never get it or you either!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I hope he changes his ways and learns to manage the diabetes with diet and not insulin! I'm sorry to hear that now Jenna will be at a greater risk now!

kimberley replied: glad they found the problem. just hope he starts taking better care of himself. hopefully it will skip a generation and Jenna won't have it.

ediep replied: Try not to worry too much about Jenna right now, Aron has adult onset diabetes and it can be prevented in Jenna. Aron can probabaly be controlled mostly though diet and exercise and maybe some medication. Just about every adult in my family has it...it seems that in my dads family when you hit about 50, you get diabetes. My dad takes meds but also has to watch sugar and exercisw

coasterqueen replied: Well I'm glad they found the problem. It sounds like he needs to be sure to take better care of himself but if he wasn't even taking his bp meds do you think he's going to watch his diet and exercise? dry.gif

I thought Type 2 required insulin. I get confused on the types. wacko.gif Diabetes is very common on my mothers side of the family so we are watched for it every year when going for our yearly check-up. But it's common in on my mom's side of the family because they never get up off their lazy butts and are obese because they choose to be/feel sorry for themselves.

I wish Aron the best and hope he'll take things serious now.

Kaitlin'smom replied: well I am glad they cought it now, and hopefully it will give him a reality check he so needs. Its also commen on DH's side of the family his father has it, grandma has it and his mom is what they have called borderline, most have been onset by lack of diet and exersize, my DH is concerned he may end up with it but he is watching what he eats more and did loose about 20-25lbs recently. I also have a few friends with it one is on insulin shots and has been all his life the other was recently diagnosed and has lost way to much weight (went into a depression and stoped eating much at all) now the docs need him to gain some weight back to get his sugar back in controll. Its reall a interesting thing. Best of luck to him, even if we do dog him for his lack of responsibilitis with Jenna I do hope he takes this searously and takes care of himself.

My2Beauties replied: sad.gif I'm glad they found out what it is! Poor guy, I actually feel sorry for him for once! sad.gif Hopefully he'll leran to regulate his diet and exercise often and not let this thing bother him!

DansMom replied: Type 2 can require insulin, or you can control it with a careful diet and exercise---each person is different, and they'll monitor him once he starts his new regimen. It's very similar to gestational diabetes, which I had. Aron's not going to like the diet! It's not just avoiding sugar, but limiting all simple carbs---french fries, potatos, rice, pasta, milk, breads, bagels, pizza, and all fruits can send your sugar level sky high if you eat a lot of them at once. They will probably advise him to limit the quantity of those foods in a meal and always have a protein when he has carbs to slow down his metabolism. I'm glad they know what it is---that's half the battle.

redchief replied: I'm glad the problem was identified. Hopefully he will change his lifestyle for his own sake. Diabetes (both types) can have a ruinous effect on the body. My mom is also hypertensive and has type 2 diabetes. She manages the diabetes okay, but she is really bad at managing her high BP and weght. Unfortunately she is also physically disabled having had polio as a child. I sympathize with what you're going through. As far as insulin goes, in my experience, those who must take it, find a way (beats the alternative), but controlling it with medication and diet is certainly easier. We'll keep you both in our prayers!
