Unbelievably sad day for us today

mom21kid2dogs wrote: We've decided to let our beloved Cocker go to the Rainbow Bridge. :cry: He's had a bad heart for several years but kept on going with a pretty nice quality of life (sans walks). Unfortunately, he suffered a stroke on 5/10 and has just not recovered well at all. We were REALLY hoping he'd just go on his own but he hasn't so I guess we'll have to help him. We've lost both our fur boys in the span of less than 6 months. It's hard to imagine life without him~he's been a part of us for so long! We're are unbelievably sad sad today. :cry:

b&bsmom replied: So sorry to hear about your dog. I know it is hard we have had to do that with one of our cats and then about 6mnths later the other one was in bad shape and died on her own. It is so hard and heartbreaking to watch the kids cry. My dd calls to our cats everynight in heaven and asks them to keep the bad dreams away. We also now have two more cats to help fill the void. You will be in our thoughts and prayers today.

jcc64 replied: As a MAJOR animal lover/owner, I have been through this many times. I completely understand how painful the loss is- our pets become an intrinsic part of our families. Their loyalty, devotion, and utter guilelessness make their passing even more painful than some of our human friends- at least that's been my experience. I'm sorry, I really am.

BTW, I had a cocker growing up that looked exactly like your pup...I still miss her.

Crystalina replied: I'm so sorry about your loss. I've said this before on the board, we had to put our Rott down after having her for 15 yrs. It was heartwrenching. That was the only time I've ever seen DH cry. She was eaten up with cancer but by the time we realized it the vet told us we could either upset her and get rid of it and do tests and surgeries or (since she was already old) to let her pass away on her own. In the end she did not pass on her own, she got to the point where I had to flip her back and forth because she could only move her head. I had to take her in and do it. We buried her here on the farm.

It is a truly upsetting experience and the way you should look at it is that there is one more soul in heaven waiting for you.

DVFlyer replied: That must be a very hard decision. Some friends were in a similar situation and the vet had a service where they would come to the house and put the dog to sleep there. This way, you could be with him/ her as they passed.

Thankfully, his passing was an easy one. We held him and the last thing he saw was us~which was how we wanted it. Luckily for us, Olivia is not the overly sensitive type. She gives us kleenex and pats us but things like this don't upset her.
