Ugh, enter the nebulizer.
texasp3 wrote: Well, I took little coughing, hacking, WHEEZING Gabriel to the pediatrician this afternoon where she confirmed my suspicions... he was definitely WHEEZING.
So, he had a breathing treatment at the office - which improved things SO much it actually worries me. I mean, yay for it working... but obviously it was the right thing to do so he obviously is having some sort of respiratory problem. Yah... huh... think maybe him being SICK since January might have tipped me off to that already?
From the doc's office it was off to the pharmacy for meds and a nebulizer that our insurance didn't cover (ouch), THEN to the hospital for a chest x-ray. Haven't heard back on those results yet.
Gabriel was high as a kite after the breathing treatment and just bounced around for about 3 hours ... then CRASHED and is sound asleep right now. He has to have another treatment in about 30 minutes, so I hope he wakes up.
He hates the treatments by the way ... it looks like another epic wrestling match... NOT looking forward to this. We're doing every 4 hours all day tomorrow too. It's enough to make me tell DH to get his butt on a plane and come home NOW.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Ugh! Sorry to hear about the wrestling matches. Is he on Albuterol (sorry re: sp)? That makes my best friend's daughter really, really hyper, too! I think she went to a specialist and got a different med because the kid was wired all the time! She has athsma, though, so she has to nebulize all winter. I really hope the treatments work. I was so sorry to hear he was sick again!
Jamison'smama replied: So sorry to hear about your sick little guy--you can give the breathing treatments when they are sleeping--we do it all the time. I hope this is something that is treatable and over---Jamison is asthmatic and is on daily breathing treatments--there is an alternative to Albuteral that doesn't hype them up--a little more expensive but worth it if they have to be on treatments for any length of time.
mammag replied: Sorry to hear he's still feeling bad. At least he can get relief with it though. Yeah, I used to give Emma (dc child) hers and they said I could give it to her while she was sleeping. It made it a lot easier.
Hugs to the little guy.
ediep replied: oh no!!! I soooo hope that this is something that gets cleared up quickly!! Poor Liitle man!!!
kimberley replied: poor baby and mommy too! i hope the treatments work fast and he is better soon!
kit_kats_mom replied: poor little fella!
I know what a pain those treatments are but they do work. Wish I would have known though. I have a nebulizer that our insurance company didn't pay for either. $450 bucks I paid for it and now that the RSV scare is over it's collecting dust (well, not really it's in it's box). Lauren has no lasting effects from her bout with RSV so I don't see us using it again. I'd have sold it for you for cheap! It's not like those things come into contact with any body fluids or stuff. I don't see why they make you purchase them. Just rent the stupid machine and make people buy their own masks & tubing. Grrrrr
Get well soon buddy.
3xmommy replied: My youngest, Hailey, has asthma and it flares up TOO MUCH... so she uses a nebulizer too with Albuterol in it... and she fights it too. Each and every time. *sigh* Sometimes I wait till she falls asleep to do it and other times I let her fight. They say the more they holler, the better, because you gotta take some deep breaths to yell so the medicine gets in good. I do this thing now too that I take a bedsheet and put it over her head and mine and bring the nebulizer in... so our little tent fills up with it and she's getting the treatment without knowing. She thinks we're playing house! *snicker*
Hailey also had RSV last year... she was in the hospital for four days, it was horrid.
Good luck and lots of caffiene hon.

texasp3 replied: Gosh - thanks for all the supportive replies. It's so nice to hear from parents who have BTDT.
Well, Gabriel hated every minute of his treatment at the doctor's office, and he fought like a maniac for about 3 minutes of his first home treatment and then just kind of gave up. Michael was holding him and shushing him and he just decided to lie back on Michael's chest and relax. It really scared me at first, but his pulse was fine and so was his breathing, and he got upset when I took the mask away!
Go figure. Michael Magic, maybe? We used to use that phrase when Gabriel was a bitty thing because no matter how fussy he was, if Michael snuggled him on his chest, Gabriel would just konk right out.
I'm hoping we can continue to have relatively wrestle free treatments. I'm glad its the weekend and Michael will be home to help with them.
iluvmysweetiepies replied: Awww poor little guy!! I hope he feels better soon. Good luck with the breathing treatments.
Lollie replied: Awwww...hope the treatments work fast for your little guy!
My little brother who is 4 yrs old has had his own nebuliser and oxygen machine since birth..he has grown so used to being nebulised that he enjoys it!! It works great for him cause of his chronic lung...we wouldnt cope without a nebulizer....
Hugs to Gabriel....
GavinsMommy replied: Yikes, sorry you are having a hard time. And sorry little long lashes is too! He's so cute!!! Hug him for all of us and I'm sending well vibes his way
texasp3 replied: Well, my strange little guy - who fights EVERYTHING including having his diaper changed - has decided he really, REALLY likes nebulizer treatments. At 5am he got treatment 3, which he pretty much slept through, and at 9am he had treatment 4 which he cooperated with completely. He sat bolt upright in my lap and held still for the entire treatment - surely a record for the wiggler who has earned the nickname 'gator for his epic wrestling matches over every little thing.
I'm sure all the P&PTs being sent his way must have gotten through!
A&A'smommy replied: awwww poor Gabriel and Mommy!! (((((HUGS)))) WOW I bet he likes the breathing treatments cause it makes him feel better I hope he gets over this stuff soon!
