Ugh! What are the odds? Part 2

Crystalina wrote: Ok, so some of you may remember my Ugh! What are the odds? original post about my trying to watch 'Memiors of a Geisha' and the movie not working.

so now part 2:

I replaced the broken movie last night. Put the kids to bed and DH and I got nice and comfy to watch the movie. We put the movie in and the dvd player turned off. unsure.gif We turned it back on, thought it was odd, and started the movie again. The same thing. After we pushed play the dvd's power would go off. dry.gif We do this about 5 more times and tried differant dvd's before realizing that our dvd player has just pooped itself. sad.gif

Not to worry! A little discouraged but Izabella has her princess dvd player so off we go to rob her of hers. We hook it up. Put the movie in and...the door jams! ohmy.gif Are you seriouse?!!! We pry the door open but then we hear a terrible grinding noise and the only thing the dvd player will do is open the door and close it. It will not play a movie. Now mind you both of our dvd players were bought last Christmas so they are only about a year old. Not to mention they both worked fine until I put 'Memiors of a Geisha' in them. blink.gif Was it a sign? I don't know but I was going to watch the gosh darn movie. Now it was a challenge and I was going to win!!
DH went to Wal-Mart to buy a dvd player and by the time he got home he was too tired to watch the movie so I watched it without him because I had to at this point in the game. mad.gif

Anyway, it ended at 2:45am and I had to hold my eyelids open with toothpics but it was a great movie and I would tell anyone who has not seen it that it's A+++ and I just hope you have better luck then I did. tongue.gif

mckayleesmom replied: It was a good movie....I watched it on HBO though.... laugh.gif

sparkys2boys replied: glad that you finally got to see it.. geesh what a time u have had!!

redplaydoh replied: Now I'll have to watch it just because after all that you went through to see and you STILL say it was worth it, it must be good.

Crystalina replied: Yes it was so worth it! I'm going to buy it and add it to my "must have" movies.

I know that alot of the good movies are on HBO but I have two problems with HBO. The first being that they show the same movie over and over and over. That is good if you want to watch it because they switch the times all the time to make it easier to catch but if you see it then you might as well hang up HBO for awhile because they will play it into the ground.

Also, and the most important reason that I don't allow HBO in the house is because one night we came home very very late. Picked up the kids from their grandparents and headed home. Now mind you, my house is all windows in the front, we had a 63 or 65" t.v. set at the time. We were unaware that we left the t.v. on. It's dark, we are driving on the road leading to our house (the main road) and we notice the t.v. was left on but what was even worse...OMG!!! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Soft porn. Boobies flopping for all to see. I was freaking out in the car wondering how long it had been on. I run in and turn it off. DH was laughing hysterically but I was mortified hoping that nobody had driven by. DH said that more then likey noone had seen it because there wasn't a bunch of cars parked in our driveway. emlaugh.gif

Lesson learned. HBO Gone. That t.v. broke and we now close the curtains and make sure the t.v. is off before leaving the house. rolleyes.gif

I think I would have been so mortified I would have been laughing hysterically. All of them tend to do that late a night though.

Oh and Memoirs is probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. I read the book before I saw the movie and both are just fantastic. I'm glad that you were finally able to watch it.

Nina J replied: LOL, that movie didn't want you to watch it or something. You got there in the end though, thats the important thing happy.gif

It's a good movie, have you read the book? I thought the book was really good too.

holley79 replied: Glad you finally got to watch it. happy.gif

CantWait replied: emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif Omgosh, sorry about all the troubles, although I find it oddly humorous.

Glad you liked the movie though, it is one of my favs. thumb.gif

3xsthefun replied: Good to hear you finally got to see it!

MoonMama replied: emlaugh.gif hug.gif Glad you finally got to see it...I have still yet to see it, but not for lack of trying. rolleyes.gif

Crystalina replied: Aww man. I didn't know there was a book out. Was the book out before the movie? Or the book written from the movie? There's a difference. I would prefer to have read the book first because the books go into so much more detail. Now I've been tainted. (I would insert a smilie here but they are not working. )

Jackie012007 replied: the book came before the movie... it's EXCELLENT! I had an ordeal when trying to watch a copy of the movie too, that I rented from Blockbuster... drove 45 minutes away from my house to my grandma's to watch it, opened it up and it wasn't the right movie!! Had to drive all the way back home to Utica Blockbuster because Oneida blockbuster (where my grandma lives) wouldn't exchange it for me or give me a different copy or anything. I ended up not liking the movie very much sad.gif but I'm glad you eventually enjoyed it!! Definitely check out the book if you are a reader!

ETA: yes the book is MUCH more detailed than the movie, and some parts of the movie are different than the book
