UGH!!!! - Questions and vent
MoonMama wrote: Today my mom came over to spend some time with Brae (and bring him some toys and spoil him cause he's sick ). Anyway she told me to go out for a bit and enjoy some self time. I called up a friend who had been mentioning she wanted to go shopping.
Here comes the vent part: She said yes she wanted to go and we decided to head to the mall. She tells me she just got out of the show and that she needed to get ready and would call me back. Fine I needed to get dressed too I was still in PJ's. So I take a quick show, get dressed, actually put makeup on, and do a few things around the house. 1 1/2 hours later she still hadn't called so I kind of blew it off because this is how she always is takes hours to get ready. I'd sure like to know how she manages this, she has a 2 yr old running around and wears more makeup each day then I do in a year I swear, I really don't know where she finds the time to spend getting ready daily. So I did a few others things around the house, she finally calls me and says she is ready (at this point it had been 2 plus hours). I was throwing in a load of laundry and putting another in the dryer, and she asks me what I'm doing. I tell her and she goes,
Friend: Gosh Ally weren't you doing laundry yesterday when I called?
Me: Yes I was but you know how it is.
Friend: No actually I don't. What did you do let it pile up for weeks? I stay on top of mine.
Me: (annoyed at this point) I'm not sure how much better I can stay on top of it I do laundry pretty much everyday. But if you have a better idea by all means do share.
Friend: Everyday?!?! Are you F-ing kidding me. You are crazy! I do it once a week. How often do you and Braedin change a day geeeeeeeeeeeez!
Me: UM A NORMAL AMOUNT OF CLOTHES ARE WORN EACH DAY!!!! END OF STORY!
Friend: Whatever!
So we go to the mall and look around a bit get some Starbucks and lunch etc. As we are walking around she starts going on about how her and her DH are so broke and she is sick of always being broke and that they are $150 overdrawn at the bank and still have a week and half till payday again. They are ALWAYS having money issues, I have helped her work out plans and charts on how pay bills and manage her money and such (I'm actually really good a this). And her husband makes fairly good money and they really shouldn't have much financial issues. Anyway, we go into a few more stores, she mentions she needs a baby gift, so I say didn't you just say you guys were overdrawn? She looks at me like I had 2 heads so I let it go figuring its their problem not mine. So we head over to Burlington. They had some really cute pajama's for a really great price and Braedin needs winder jammies. So I picked out 7 pairs for now and also got some lighter weight ones in 18 months for this spring. Ok so she picks a gift and also gets 3 pairs of jammies for her daughter. She see's all the jammies I'm getting and says good golly why are you buying so many pairs. I explain that only some are for now (12 months) and the rest are for this spring (18 months). She goes off about how either way he doesn't need that many pairs and rants a raves about it. I didn't think that was that many pairs? I said really that's only one for each day of the week. She then goes off saying WTF (full words in the mall, loud) you put him in a new pair of pajamas everyday?!?!?!? Mine daughter wear 2 pairs a week always has! I say yeah! What is wrong with that? She then loudly as we are going through checkout says "well you know it must be so nice not to have money problems, to be able to buy all that stuff. Must be nice to have a husband who makes SO MUCH MONEY and to be able to buy whatever you what!" Excuse me what?!?!? That was all she wrote for me I lost it said something to her about everything (not so nicely) and left! I was so angry (still am a bit)!
So now my questions:
How often do you do laundry? How many times in a row do your kids wear their PJs? Is that too many pairs of jammies?
Ok I feel a bit better now thanks for letting me vent and if you got this far thanks so much.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
I do laundry as I'm able. I may throw a load in after work and follow it through or I may wait and do 5 or 6 loads on a weekend. Depends on how tired I am after work.
Logan wears his jammies 2 days in a row, less if he spills something on them.
Logan currently has 2 blanket sleepers, 5 pairs of short sleeve/pant jammies, 4 pairs of long sleeve/pant jammies, and 2 pairs of short sleeve/short jammies. My mom and MIL love buying jammies. I only bought the blanket sleepers.
So, I guess I don't think it's too many jammies.
Calimama replied:
How often do you do laundry?- A load every 2 days.
How many times in a row do your kids wear their PJs?- Once
Is that too many pairs of jammies?- No!
Bella has 12 pairs of PJS. Your friend has no right to butt into your business and tell you it's too many or anything else about parenting. While I do appreciate advice from my friends, she crossed a major line. You should tell her green really isn't her color.
My3LilMonkeys replied: oh honey....sounds like she just wanted to be a @#*)@ and would have found fault with anything you said! I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
To answer your questions, with 4 people in the house we do laundry EVERY day and I'm still behind most of the time.
Madison has about 5 pairs of PJ's for each season but she very rarely wears them - she prefers to sleep in just a diaper.
Brooke has about 5 pairs for summer and only 3 for winter (but we haven't gone fall shopping yet). She wears her PJ's usually only once, but sometimes she'll get on a kick of wanting to wear the Dora ones or whatever for a few days in a row and I'll let her as long as they're not dirty.
PrairieMom replied: I do laundry daily. At least one load Al wears her jammies one time, then they get washed, (she eats breakfast in them, then they are to dirty to wear, Ben sleeps in his "unders" I don't know how many pairs of jammies Al has, maybe 5? but they are all hand me downs from ben.
To me, 7 pairs of jammies is excessive, but not so many that I would freak and stroke out in the middle of the mall over.
Our Lil' Family replied: How often do you do laundry? One load about every other day. How many times in a row do your kids wear their PJs? Just once but he could easily wear them twice...I wear mine at least 2 times...mostly because I just lounge in them, not sleep. Is that too many pairs of jammies? I probably would have only bought 2 or 3 pair for now, but if they were really well priced and you can do that then no one should make you feel bad about it.
Sorry you had such an awful day with your "friend"....sounds to me like she isn't a very good one!
luvmykids replied: I do laundry all the time...I swear I am constantly moving a load from the washer to the dryer. We do go through a lot of clothes, the kids play outside a lot.
They wear their jammies anywhere from 2-4 times, they always put them on straight out of the bath and take them off before breakfast so I don't see the harm.
They each have about 5 or 6 pairs of jammies.
Mommy2Isabella replied: Laundry - Twice a week (wednesday and sunday) but it is a few loads each time.
Jammies - Bella has a DRAWER full of them, but RARELY wears them. When she does, she wears them once and then they are dirty from eating and they get washed.
If I were you , I would have FLIPPED out ... Sorry ...
Anthony275 replied: 7 pairs isnt a lot, your baby will grow and will not fit in them. you planned ahead. what dosent she understand about that??
Brias3 replied: 1. I do laundry everyday and you're right, there's never any staying on top of it, it seems (even with every person in the house wearing a normal amount of clothes
2. My kids wear a fresh pair every other day, unless there is something spilled on them. I only do the re-wear though because they get a bath each night and usually are dressed for the day before breakfast so not alot of opportunity to get dirty
3. No, what you bought is not over the top in pajamas. My kids each have probably have at LEAST a dozen pairs that fit them at any given time. It seems like I'm constantly picking pjs (and clothes) out if I see bigger sizes or a good deal!
4. YES, your "friend" was rude and good for you for leaving!!
People that like really irk me....
MoonMama replied: Thanks everyone you all have made me feel loads better about it all.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Depends on my mood. Sometimes the kids will only wear their pjs once... sometimes they'll wear them up to 3 nights... sometimes they'll sleep in their clothes if they're asleep in the car or whatever... i'm not picky.
Heck if I can wear my jeans and bras a couple days, they can wear their pjs a couple days.
I do laundry every day too Ally. that's staying on top of it. ![wink.gif](http://forums.parentingclub.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif)
It is not too many pairs of jammies. 7 pairs... but some ar efor now, some for later. So really you only got 3 or 4.
CantWait replied: Well I do laundry once or twice a week easy and it's at least 4 load if not more each time, if I do it once a week, it's usually 7-8 loads. We wear a lot of clothes, underwear alone I can go through 2 or 3 a day, and it's just because I go to the gym. Then of course I have gym clothes, rarely do I wear those more then once. PJ's the kids wear 1 pair a day, so that's 7 a week, sometimes less. So I don't think you're excessive at all.
Anthony has got lots of PJs, (more then 7) some hand me downs, some not, some are smaller then the others but still wearable.
I'm shocked that your friend had such a tiff, sounds like she's going through some issues of her own right now. She shouldn't have let them out on you.
stella6979 replied: Why is it that some people think it's their right to tell other people how to live their lives? I'm not sure I'd be able to be friends with someone like that. With that being said, I do at least one load of laundry every day if not every other day otherwise it would pile up which I can't stand. As for the jammies, I guess I'm the odd man out. We rarely ever even buy jammies. Avery does have a couple pair but we try to save as much as we can so in the winter we just usually buy sweatpant outfits that way she can wear them to bed or she can wear them as an outfit and in the summer she will only sleep in her diaper.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Laundry gets done when I have time, normally on weekends but sometimes that spills over to weekdays, so sometimes I feel like I do a load a day, I am always behind and coudl always be doing laundry.
I would not buy that many pj, however she probably has between t-shirts, night gowns and jammies about 15 things she could sleep in, but she prefers to sleep in her clothes.
to me she is one of those people who complains about money and is jealouse when others manage money better, I get so annoyed with those MUST BE NICE comments drives me nuts
moped replied: here are my thoughts
Cece00 replied: How often do you do laundry? -I have to do laundry every day, I have 6 people in my home.
How many times in a row do your kids wear their PJs? -Once. They eat breakfast in them so then they are too dirty to wear twice.
Is that too many pairs of jammies? -No. My kids have like 5-10 pairs each.
Bamamom replied: I either do laundry every day or I end up doing more than one load at the time - some days are two load days anyway!
Tripp eats breakfast in his jammies so they get washed everyday - I guess I wash Katie Grace's everyday out of habit.
Tripp has 4 pairs - Katie has 6. No real reason. If I found a sale on the kind we like I would certainly stock up!
HuskerMom replied: How often do you do laundry? Seems like all the time, but probably every other day. How many times in a row do your kids wear their PJs? He'll wear them twice in a row unless they get dirty. Is that too many pairs of jammies? I don't think that's too many. There's nothing wrong with stocking up.
Boo&BugsMom replied: How often do you do laundry? How many times in a row do your kids wear their PJs? Is that too many pairs of jammies? #1...I do laundry about twice a week, but sometimes I end up doing it more depending on how many clothes we go through and how much I am able to get done each day. I don't have any specific day to do it though, I just do it when our baskets are full, and they get full easily.
#2...Aiden's almost every night he gets clean jammies put on because he spits up so much. Tanner about every 3-4 days in his PJ's, unless he sweats a lot then it's less.
#3...kind of, but I can remember when I had Tanner (first born) I always over shopped for clothes and jammies because everyone told me "you can't have too many clothes and jammies". He was also my first born so he was a bit more spoiled, plus when I see sales I grab, grab , grab. I guess 7 seems like a lot, but if he wears a different set of jammies each night, then I can see why you would want that many. Everyone does things differently. If you change his jammies every night, that shouldn't be anyone else's concern and noone should care what your method it.
Side note...your friend needs to get a grip. Sounds like maybe she is jealous of your financial stability. She needs to really grow up, to say the least. Goodness, if I were like her I wouldn't have any friends because out of ALL our friends, we are the poorest!!!
TheOaf66 replied: ahem...who else does it
Boo&BugsMom replied: Ok, yes, I will give props to hubby. He helps with it too.
