Trey Christopher is HERE!! - Born 6 weeks early!

I ended up in the ER Tuesday morning, June 14, because when I woke up that morning there was blood and mucus and I didn't know what was going on. I had had trouble sleeping that night, anyway, so I was more than a little concerned. Turns out it was bloody show, and I was 2 cm dialated. The hospital wanted to keep me overnight for observation, so they took me to labor and delivery to get me checked in until I stabilized. As the nurse was entering my information in the computer, the baby moved and my water broke! At that point, they changed the course of action from monitoring to staving off labor for as long as possible. I was given an IV with magnesium, antibiotics as a precaution, and a steroid shot to help develop baby's lungs in preparation for birth. They wanted to keep me from going into labor for 24 hours at least so that they could give me a second steroid shot, but that wasn't meant to be. I started having contractions sometime around 10 or 11 that night. By midnight they were coming pretty regularly and were waking me up from sleep. By 3am I couldn't lay on the bed anymore, and I had to sit upright and just lean over to sleep between contractions. When I realized I had the urge to push, I knew things were happening quickly. The doctor came and tried to do a speculum exam, but he couldn't get the speculum in. That's when THEY realized things were happening quickly! I was 10 cm dialated and the baby was crowning at that point. I got wheeled very quickly back to labor and delivery, and I had to keep from pushing until my OB arrived, about 15 minutes later. She walked in, pulled on her gown and gloves, and they said I could push. I pushed through one contraction and Trey Christopher was born at 3:42am!! He was 6lbs 1/2oz, 19 1/2 inches long, and that's 6 weeks early!! Imagine if he'd gone full-term... lol

Mommy and baby are both doing great! I was discharged Friday evening, and Trey came home Monday evening. He had his first pediatrician appointment yesterday, and she proclaimed him to be "Just perfect!" Of course, DH and I already knew that...

Anyway, just wanted to share my good news with you all! Thanks for helping me through this pregnancy. You've all been great! I'm gonna stick around, but I hope you'll understand if I don't post a whole lot for a while...

I am glad you had a fairly quick and easy labor and birth and that everyone is fine. I also wish you an easy few weeks and lots of sleep!!
