Transition between.... - infant seat and big boy seat..
MomofTay&Sam wrote: I have made the change in seats already. My question is how on earth do you go grocery shopping with a baby that does sit up but not well enough for the cart? He would EAT the nasty germ infested cart, not to mention topple over trying to grab everything in site! Now I take the stroller in and have my 10 yr old push Sam, which he loves but than it's like I have two carts and I have to do double work! Anyone have any great ideas?
Mommieto2Girls replied: You can but a grocery cart cover at any baby store . With Maddie I take a birp cloth and put over the front. You could always take a blanket or two and put one on each side of him.
MomofTay&Sam replied: Thanks M2M! Great Idea!
supermom replied: Yep, they also make a special "seat" for babies for carts - it's got a padded seat (basically a longer piece of material that goes behind them and in the seat (like an L) with an attached WIDE strap (about 6"-8" side) that goes thru the seat part, then thru the bars in the cart, and around the babe's tummy - so it really holds them upright and doesn't "cut" them like the shopping cart straps do! I swore by it with all my kids - used it for all of them, worked excellent!
MommyToAshley replied: I had wondered the same thing with Ashley. She has sat up really well since about 4 months old, but she bites/chews on everything in site. I knew she would try to bite the grocery cart handle (GROSS!)...so I did Mommy2Madison suggested and brought some blankets in. I didn't know about the special seat they make. At other stores, other than grocery, we take the stroller in...works great. This weekend she got pushed around Best Buy and Circuit City in her stroller..hehe.
I miss the good ol' days of the infant seat... she would actually fall asleep while we grocery shopped...LOL.
maliksmommy replied: At my grocery store they have wipes there when you walk in by the carts to wipe them off, Malik eats the cart all the time! When he didn't sit up very well I used to bring a blanket and prop him up, it worked pretty good. I have seen those things they make for carts that you put your kid in and I wish I would have known about them before they look so neat:)
aspenblue1 replied: I have one of the cart cover things. Also can be used as tummy time play mate. It has toys that hang off to keep her busy while I am shopping. I also has a pillow on it to help prop them up.
5littleladies replied: Brianna is moving to a "big girl" car seat this week but fortunately she sits up very well and I don't have a problem with the cart. (except of course the chewing on the cart). Here's a link to one of those seats. I've been thinking of getting one. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...arentingclub-20
Julie (jem0622) replied: I put Gabe in the Baby Bjorn or sling. He loves the different perspective. Also, his big brother hates sitting in the back of the cart. Saves my sanity!

supermom replied: Yeah, that was it - except when I got mine (18 years ago), they weren't quite as fancy (didn't have the handle cover or the pouches in back) but it still was enough to keep them sitting up straight and kept them from reaching the handle anyway!
They were a lifesaver! I would recommend it - I used mine with all my kids!
maestra replied: Jaci is still in the infant seat. Our ped said not to change her until she outgrows the weight limit. When did your docs say to change?
dhoppygirl replied: Our ped didn't tell us...we just knew it was time because Peyton did not fit in his infant seat anymore. The restraining straps weren't fitting correctly, his feet were almost hanging off the egde and he was getting way too heavy!!!! Plus, he wanted to sit up more than what the infant seat offered...by the time he was in his big boy seat he could hold his head up really well. Hope that helps!
supermom replied: There is a really excellent online resource for checking different ages/types of seats/appropirateness <sp?> of those seats for your infant/child. It's the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration site on Car seats and you can find it here:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/
There is also other good info there - tells how to install, fit, etc, etc.....
