Train sets just for boys?

coasterqueen wrote: I've come across train sets in magazines and often wondered if it would be something Kylie would like. Do you think trainsets are just for boys or that girls would like them too? Any other thoughts on the subject?

I've seen the wooden sets with the cars that have the magnet to attach with. I thought that would be a nice set to get. I myself always thought trainsets were cool. My friend's brother had one and I loved watching him play with his, lol.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley loves trains. Every time we go to ToysRUs, she spends the entire time playing with the wooden tain set. I bought her the Winnie The Pooh electric train for her bday, but it is a little hard to opperate. I think she would be happier with the wooden one that she can pull/push herself. I might get her a different one for Christmas.

DansMom replied: Daniel is totally in love with wooden train sets, the Thomas type. He can spend a lot of time playing with them. I have one on loan from his older cousin, and he is in heaven. I think girls should be encouraged to play with mechanical things---it could foster an interest in engineering, math, etc. Go for it!

coasterqueen replied:
Well...Dh IS an electrical engineer, lol. I think I just may get this for her if DH is in agreement. She's getting all clothes for Christmas and I wanted one nice toy for her to have from Santa..this will probably be it.

Schnoogly replied: Our barnes & noble has a big thomas train set up in the kids' section and there are always tons of little girls playing there. I've also seen another brand called "brio" which is just wooden trains and fewer character types, like Thomas. But there are some girl Thomas engines and cars too. I think she would really like it! THe wooden setup is pretty expensive though, as you have to get a lot of tracks to make a circuit and the engines are about $10 each. But they last forever.

Iain is absolutely in LOVE with Thomas and we are planning to save up and get him a whole setup as a combined bday/Christmas present this year and glue a track setup to a board since that is the tough part for little kids--the tracks don't stay together that well when they're playing rough. When he's older he'd be able to put them together himself but right now he just likes to vroom the trains around on the tracks at B&N. He has just the thomas engine--wooden one--right now and he vrooms it around on all the tables.

Kaitlin'smom replied: No they are not just for boys....I say id she lieks them than get her one, Kaitlin has not had the chance to play with trains yet but I do plan on getting her one sometime.

loveydad replied: my little girl loves anything thats fun, and that includes "boy toys"! She loves trains, planes, cars, and boy stuff! She wore Buzz Lightyear pullups for a long time, now sometimes she wears spiderman! Strange kid!

aspenblue1 replied: Isabella loves trains. She always plays with the train sets when we go to the toy store.

mama3x replied: The side of me that worked with parents feels trains and dolls can be for either gender. The mommy side of me leans toward the traditional. So I would never really on my own think of traditional boy toys for my DD but if she likes 'em, I'll get 'em!

Josie83 replied: No way are they just for boys! Cassie loves trains and cars and things like that! I think they're a great thing for them to play with. Go for it if that's what she's loving! xx

Maddie&EthansMom replied:

5littleladies replied: My girls have the wooden one with the magnets and they love it! biggrin.gif
