Tornados go through our way again
coasterqueen wrote: We were outside taking a walk when my mother called and said to run home as fast as we can and get in the basement. The sirens were going off in Springfield and we can't hear them out in the country, although once we stood there for a second we could hear a faint sound of the siren, but you really have to pay attention. Dh grabbed Kylie and I grabbed Megan out of the stroller and we RAN! As soon as my mom called the wind picked up faster than nothing. I'm serious. I couldn't believe it. I've never seen the wind kick up that quick that fast. I got the girls in the basement and Dh grabbed the cats. We spent 1 hour in the basement but luckily had power the entire time but the wind was out of this world! We sat there watching the news tell us a least one tornado touch down in the same area that was hit just 3 weeks ago. They don't know the extent of the damage but it looks like a lot less people are w/o power this time, so I guess that's good. No one was killed in the last 2 tornados, so I hope there aren't any this time.
You know I don't think my legs ran faster than that ever. Dh and I were both out of breath. We didn't even know a storm was coming. It was overcast, but that's it. Not sure if we'll ever get Kylie to go on a walk for awhile after that.
We got lucky and only have a lot of branches down and potted trees blown over. DH told me to crack open the garage door so it wouldn't get sucked in and because I did that the garage attic door swung open in the wind and a bunch of insulation is all over our garage, but it looks like that was it. We got lucky a second time. I'm not looking forward to the rest of spring. It's going to be a long season.
Bee_Kay replied: OMG Karen! That is scary!
I've only had a couple experiences with tornados. A few years ago, a tornado hit the home of DH co-workers parents home and they were killed. Another was a couple years ago, sirens went off and it was storming out, but nothing came of it.
Stupid me. DH calls from work and tells me and the kids to get in the basement.... and I am so curious, I was "looking" out the backdoor for it
I am glad you are all OK!!
MyLuvBugs replied: I'm glad you're all ok. stay safe.
ashtonsmama replied: How scary! Glad you all are ok-that could have been horrible...yikes. I'm so glad I don't live in tornado country! But something wierd happened a couple months ago-there was a tornado in San Francisco! Granted, about 6 hours away from us, but still really strange, we never get them here... The world is ending!
luvmykids replied: How scary! Glad you're all safe.
holley79 replied: I don't miss that kind of weather. Now we are stuck with stupid hurricanes. At least with those there is enough warning and time to prepare. Hope Kylie will go on a walk sooner then you think.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Karen I just heard that on the radio when we were driving home from the restaurant. I told Scotty "A friend of mine lives out there" I said a little prayer that you all were okay.
I'm so sorry....that's scary, I've been there. I'm glad everyone is okay. Those poor people that were hit
CosmetologyMommy replied: I am in IL too but Chicago and I saw the warnings on TV.
Nina J replied: I'm glad everyone is safe and okay, it sounds terrifying
gr33n3y3z replied: I'm glad everyone is ok
coasterqueen replied: yeah, if I was home I would have too. Did you guys get hit up there?
Thanks everyone else for prayers and nice words. I hear a lot of people in several states got hit so my prayers go out to everyone.
JP&KJMOM replied: Glad everyone is safe.
We lived in Oklahoma for 5 years and I remember the sirens making my skin crawl even on days that they were testing them. We lived North of OKC during the May 3, 1999 tornados spree there and it was absolutely the scariest day of my life. Prayers to you for a safe tornado season.
Bee_Kay replied:
OMG! Me Too! When I went to bed last night, I turned on the TV to CNN and they had a weather map thing and all the tornados and tornado warnings!
I was thinking about those on here when I saw that. Scary! It said that there were a few people that killed
