Took Nora to the walk-in clinic for her abscess

amynicole21 wrote: For those who may not have read my previous posts, I thought Nora had a diaper rash at first because of some little pimples on her butt cheeks. One of them got really big and hard and caused her a lot of pain, so after some urging from you guys I took her to the After Hours Pediatrician to have it looked at. It was an abscess - or boil - and they drained it and cultured it for staph. It was terrible - she was screaming and they were squeezing it and it was so very bloody and messy. bawling.gif I felt sick to my stomach just holding her down so that they could do it. sad.gif She's on antibiotics now and they'll let me know in 5 days what the culture shows.

Thanks for telling me to go, guys. Poor thing would have been in even more pain if I didn't. hug.gif

Calimama replied: Poor thing. Hopefully this will take care of the problems. hug.gif hug.gif

lovemy2 replied: Aww poor little girl - did they tell you where they come from or why she got it???

Hope she feels better soon hug.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I'm so sorry Amy!! I wish that she didn't have to go thru that. bawling.gif Poor thing. sad.gif I hope she feels better soon. hug.gif I can't believe you have to wait 5 days for the culture. Be sure and let us know what it is. You did the right thing...I would just hate for it to be staph and for her to get worse. My nephew had it in the same area. I remember how awful it was for him. bawling.gif

amynicole21 replied:
Well, if it's a staph infection it could have come from anywhere... daycare, Sea World - who knows? Otherwise, it's just an infected hair follicle like a pimple that got out of control. dunno.gif Lots of bad stuff hanging out in diapers that can do some damage I guess.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Poor Nora! sad.gif hug.gif I hope it clears up quickly now! hug.gif

luvmykids replied: Oh what an ordeal for both of you hug.gif I'm glad you took her in though, just to be safe. KUP on the culture hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'm glad you took her in, a friend of mind had that happen to her child and they thought it was staph turned out not to be but it got REALLY big and needed draining!! hug.gif hug.gif I'm SOO sorry you two had to go through that!!!

amynicole21 replied: Thanks everyone. It's still draining, but I'm hoping the antibiotics start to do the trick soon. I have to take her in for a re-check at her regular ped tomorrow.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Oh, no fun. Glad you did go in to have it checked out.
The five day wait for culture is probably going to be less, but most doctors build in a "fudge factor" when dealing with cultures in case it is something that needs more time to grow or is unusual in any way. Most things that could grow in the diaper area are easy to both grow and identify. Hope it's just some simple bug and easily taken care of. Hugs to you both.

CantWait replied: Oh poor Nora, hope it's nothing serious and she gets some relief soon. hug.gif hug.gif

redchief replied: I'm sorry for both you and poor Nora. I'm glad you took her to the doctor's office. thumb.gif

DansMom replied: Yikes, Amy! Poor Nora. I hope the culture comes back staph-free.
