Tomorrow's Just Another Day - A Poem for Spencer
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: I started this poem last October. When Spencer and I headed to Toronto to have his pic line removed and his central line put in. I observed him the day before we left and on the airplane. I remember on the plane all he wanted to do was go to the 555 Shop at Sick Kids to see if they had more lego sets. And he kept asking what we were going to have fore lunch. He was going to have major surgery and these were his biggest concerns. I have such a strong little boy. I'm not good at writing poetry, so I know this isn't the greatest poem. But here it is a poem for my son.
Tomorrow’s Just Another Day
He sits at the computer playing his game. Not a care in the world and a smile on his face.
He lies in his bed, his favourite toys tucked under his arm. He calls for his dad to come and tuck him in. This is where we see the little boy in him.
He sits in the airplane looking out at that same view. Taking him to a hospital, this isn’t anything new. All he is talking about is toys or the lunch we will get.
He sits on the exam table unwrapping his lines. Joking with the nurses. Laughing the whole time.
He waits patiently for tests to be done and results to come back. You can ask him any question and you won’t be surprised. He knows all the answers, because he’s learned everyone.
He’s too young to be so brave. He’s too young to be so strong. He’s just a little boy and yet there he is, so much more.
He grew up too fast. He knows too much. If we could all watch him, we would learn, That today is today and tomorrow's just another day.
