Toddlers and Tiaras - anyone watch it?
stella6979 wrote: I told myself I wouldn't watch it, but curiosity got the best of me. I honestly can't believe how much money these Moms spend on pageants and it scares me to think what these little girls are going to grow up to be like. I was shocked!!! Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the natural beauty pageants, but these pageants are just plain CRAZY!!! How about setting all that money aside for their college education???!!!
lisar replied: I didnt see the show. But I do have stong feelings on that stuff.
If the child is happy and wants to do it, then by all means let them do it. But if the child doesnt wanna do it, then dont force them to do it. And dont be using all that darn make-up, and getting a 5 year old tanned in the tanning bed. Thats just crazy.
stella6979 replied: Oh, that's what this show was all about. Spray tan, fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake teeth, loads of make-up......I just don't get it.
lisar replied: Then I am with you and just dont agree with it. Its supposed to be about the kids. And it should be all natural. I can see doing their hair. But fake teeth, and tanning is a big NO NO
MommyToAshley replied: No offense to anyone that does pageants, but personally I'm glad Ashley has never asked to do them. It's not something I would want her to get involved in. I just don't like the focus on outer beauty. But, different strokes for different folks ... just like parenting, we all have different opinions and I try not to judge others. I'm sure I do things that others don't agree with.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: The little girl that lost her front teeth so had to get flippers kinda made me sad!
Kaitlin'smom replied: I really am buged by the Gitz pageants, its sooo competivite and horrible the parents who are really into to it are horrible and will bash any newcomer or anyone who beats there child. We will stick to natural ones, we do get a few of the glitz in our but most of them behave but we do have a few who think they are better than others and will strong arm the directors. Kaitlin has learnd so much from them, its not all about beauty, some are yes but not the ones we do. She does love them but her interest are changing so we are doing far less.
lisar replied: That is something I would have done for my child also then. If its for a medical reason I would be doing it.
I didnt see the show though.
lisar replied: Yes and you have shown us pictures of hers, she isnt all dazzled up with make-up so thick and and not laying in a tanning bed before hand. She is in the ones that are natural which is what I would choose if Lexi or Raygen wanted in them.
Kaitlin'smom replied: she does not wear a drop of makeup, okay she has worn chapstick in the winter when her lips were dry but I dont consider that makeup nor would I ever fake tan her (most of those btw are spray tans very few do the beds anymore, faster and cheeper to spray tan), if she is tan its all natural from being in the sun.
mommymommy replied: I agree completely with you and Lisa R..I haven't seen the show but there are a ton of moms who go overboard!
Kaitlin'smom replied: and its not just mom's....
luvbug00 replied: I watched it and although i can't say i compleatly agree with pagents ( although i applaud the movement tward make up free ones) , I found thease parents are the ones that create the sterotypes against pagentry. It's sad how they push and the girls are brats.
stella6979 replied: Oh Di, I've seen pics of Kaitlyn too and she is stunning....without all that junk. From what I saw on the show it seems these Glitzy pageants really do only care about appearance. They don't even interview the kids on stage or anything, they just have them parade around in their short dresses and bathing suits.
JulieJ replied: It has been suggested to me on more than one occasion that I get DD and DS into modeling. For those that this would make happy, more power to them. I am not so sure that this is an avenue in which I want to travel, or rather have my kids do so. Please don't read this as judgmental.
MommyToAshley replied: You know, I think you are right and all the glitzy ones give all the pageants a bad name. I really don't know much about them because I never really looked into it... so I am actually forming an opinion without knowing much about either type of pageant. At least I can admit it, right? It's just not something Ashley has ever brought up and not something I would seek out. But, it's probably like any other program or sport... there are the good ones and the bad ones. I hope you didn't take my thoughts as being judgemental as that is not how it was meant.
Kaitlin'smom replied: nope not at all, eveyone has there opinin and TBH I thought the same way cause all you see is the hype over glitz, it was not until Kaitlin expressed intrest that I learned about natural pageants and we encounterd some not so good one and some really nice ones.
some of Kaitlin's favorites have interviews, she LOVES to chat with them. and they love chatting with her.
Calimama replied: I watched it!! DH was so freaked out when he saw those girls in makeup. IMO they aren't cute at all in that crap.
mckayleesmom replied: I hate the glitsy pageants....Especially when the little girls are tanned, have more makup on then I have ever worn in my lifetime combined and those fake teeth look rediculous. The fake teeth really drive me insane..that is teaching your child that they are not good enough to win the way they are.
If it was just an all natural pageant, then I wouldn't mind it providing that my child wanted to participate and I was't forcing them to. I can't stand those moms that couldn't make it as beauty queens forcing their child to live their dream. I have seen some of those shows where the children are just not interested and are meanly forced to do it. When the children don't want to cooperate the moms belittle them and get pretty harsh Sometimes they are so harsh that if the camera's weren't around you can probably guarantee that the child would have been spanked or something.
