Toddler out of bed - uh-oh
luvmykids wrote: Last night Macie got out of her bed, which has been happening for about a week, but this time it was about 4 this morning and when I caught her she was on the kitchen island, spraying the kitchen faucet.
She's still in a crib, which she can obviously get out of, can scale any gate, open her bedroom door, etc. Would it be traumatic to lock her bedroom door so she just cannot get out while the rest of us are dead asleep? It's pretty lucky I heard her and woke up, I'm afraid we might not get that lucky next time. Any ideas?
moped replied: I do agree with locking it - safety reasons.............she should not be wandering the house when everyone is sleeping - bad thigns could happen
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: How about locking her door and using a monitor?
PrairieMom replied: What about stacking 2 baby gates in her door way? i am so thankful that The Boy hasn't figured out he can climb those things yet!
luvmykids replied: Thats an idea! I don't really want to lock her door bacause I don't want her to freak out and hate going to bed. I think I'll try that!
kit_kats_mom replied: I just use a monitor. I usually hear her when she stirs at all. If you think you wouldn't, put something noisy on the floor (like foil or soemthing) that will alert you that she's escaped.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Logan is still in a crib and hasn't figured out how to get out yet. But, I suppose we will be gating him in if need be.
ediep replied: how about one of those door knob covers on the inside of her room.
I also like the idea of stacking 2 gates.
My3LilMonkeys replied: JMHO, but if she can climb out of a crib I think it's time to move up to a toddler bed. It would be too easy for her to get hurt climbing out of the crib.
Also, I personally would not lock her in her room. I would not be comfortable with the idea and in an emergency it would make it more difficult to get to her.
I agree with the others - maybe set up some metal cans that would get hit when she opened her door and use a monitor so that the noise would wake you up.
luvmykids replied: I tried the knob covers with the twins and they got them off, but maybe she wouldn't . I guess thats the easiest thing to try!
CantWait replied: IMHO I think it would be pretty tramatic for a child to suddenly go to the door and find it locked so she was unable to get out.....could you imagine being in your room and not being able to get out. Only a good thing if dh was there if you KWIM
luvmykids replied: Thats a good idea too, if I can do it without it waking up the other two. I'll have to think on that one.
BAC'sMom replied: How about a small wind chime on the outside of the door, I think you will be able to hear that.
Celestrina replied: We use one of the knob covers so Ben cannot open his door. We can still get in easily, but he can't get out.
