Toddler Bed - when did you switch?
Mommy2Isabella wrote: We are going tonight to pick up Bella's bed rails to convert her crib into a toddler bed and figured we would give it a whirl.
Do you think she is too young? When did you switch your child?
* I read that if the new baby is using the crib then don't do it unless you have AMPLE time to get your older child ready. He has his own crib as hers converts into a toddler, day and full size bed. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.*
PrairieMom replied: I did both mine at 18 months, actually we are in the process of switching Al over. I read somewhere it is best to wait until they are three tho.
Mommy2Isabella replied: I can't imagine waiting until she was 3, the poor "footboard" of her bed would be RUINED. She bangs on it, and climbs on it ...
I guess we just may be on the bad parent list AGAIN!!
Calimama replied: I'll do it around the time DH comes back (well more like after he comes back), so she'll be like 21-22 months if I think she's ready. We'll see I guess. She can climb out of her crib now if she REALLY wants to, but luckily she doesn't want to very often.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I put Logan straight into a big bed in July so 2 months before his 3rd birthday. He was never a climber, so I kept him in the crib until then.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: There is not a set time IMO. Go with your kids cues. I transitioned Wil at about 18 months or so, maybe a bit later. I wanted him comfortable being in his big boy bed before Wesley arrived, which was when Wil was 22 months. So I gave it about 4 months before the baby arrived. Oh, and we went straight to a twin bed, with rails, low to the ground.
A&A'smommy replied: I think it depends on whether or not your child is ready.. if she is ready at 18months then switch her.. I think we switched alyssa at around 20 months
moped replied: Jack was 3 - at that age it was a smooth transition..
Cece00 replied: Well, Natalie is over 2 and she's still in a crib.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Johnny is in a twin bed. and we had not even one second of a problem with that transition...and he historically has not delt well with change in the bed department.
Matt was 12 months and monkey boy could escape his crib. put him in a twin and he would sit there and call for me in the morning. Katy 16 months just needed to to get the kids seperated and now Johnny was about 14 months. his feeding pump got disconnected and pumped a few ounces under his mattress....I however didn't know until about a week later when the stench was totally overpowering and I had washed all his bedding a couple times with no change. he went into the twin bed that night and I have never even thought about putting him back. he does great in it.,
My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke was 2, in preparation for Madison being born. She was in the toddler bed for about 6 months, then she got a twin bed.
Madison was just about a year when my monkey could climb out of the crib. She was in the toddler bed for over a year until she broke it and now we've got bunk beds.
I'm probably on the bad parent list too though - Brooke's 4 and she sleeps on the top bunk.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: so does Matt. Johnny climbed the ladder last weekend so I took the ladder away and now Matt climbs up over the side...it's high and he has to really work for it but J can't get up now
Mommy2Isabella replied: well we took the leap ... she seems to be ok, she was excited to see it ... lol, its just a lower version with one side missing of her crib ... LOL!!
We will see how she does through the night ... we put pillows on the floor though!
Calimama replied: Man you don't waste time!
lovemy2 replied: Olivia was OVER three when we switched her and it was really only cause we moved and didn't want to set the crib up again.....when we put the crib up for Dylan Olivia was soo excited - she still loves to climb in there with him and she still fits
We'll see what Dylan the monkey does
Mommy2Isabella replied: WHAT A SUCCESS
She loved her big girl bed, she went right to sleep. She did wake up in the middle of the night but that could be due to being sick, we just rocked her and put her back down and she went right back to sleep
She likes her big girl bed ... now onto big girl panties ... as soon as she is done with these antibiotics ...
Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner was about 20 months I think. He did great and loved it. We went straight to twin bed though. A toddler bed for him would have been a waste because he's so tall.
My2Beauties replied: Hanna was close to 2, maybe 21 months or something, I can't remember exactly. She did great, that is when she actually started sleeping like an angel. She went straight to a twin bed, no toddler bed. We were given a twin bed for free. It had rails on the side. Aubrey's crib coverts, so that will make it nice.
autumnj replied: My girls will be 3 in May and one still sleeps in her crib but I have lowered the bars and getting ready to remove them, and my other little one sleeps in the big bed with mommy.
mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee was about 2....we never put her crib back up when we moved to Fort Knox.
Russell was 1.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: We just switched in Dec. Mackenzie is 3.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley was 3 when we converted her bed to a toddler bed... well, I think it was about a week before her 3rd birthday. It was weird that she started preschool before she was out of a crib...LOL. It was only a few weeks, but it still seemed weird to have a preschooler in a crib. (She was never a climber either)
lisar replied: Lexi went to a toddler bed when she was about 18months old. Raygen I tried and it wasnt gona happen. So I tried again at about 2.5 years old and she has done great since.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We never did the toddler bed. Tanner went right to a twin bed around 20 months.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Alex got a toddler bed when he turned 2 and almost two years later my baby is getting to big for it, he's so tall, so we are looking into getting him a twin bed pretty soon.
