To rock or not to rock?

MyLuvBugs wrote: So, Do you still rock your 1 yr old or toddler to sleep at night or for naps? Or do they fall asleep in their own crib/bed?

A&A'smommy replied: I rocked Alyssa until she 20months old thumb.gif

moped replied: No rocking here, not because I didn't like it - but we stopped at 4 months. And he is 31 pounds!! LOLOL

mom2tripp replied: No rocking here, never was a rocker, Tripp has been sleeping on his own in his own bed since 4 months

My3LilMonkeys replied: Neither of my kids have ever been rocked to sleep. Madison prefers to put herself to sleep and Brooke is a cuddler but not a rocker.

MyLuvBugs replied:
So did you have to wean her off of the rocking, or did she just not want to be rocked any more?

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Jade was going to bed on her own by 1. I hope Jordan does too!

1moremakes4 replied: Taylor was in daycare while I worked so she got used to being laid down in her crib and having her back patted a little to fall asleep. I would still rock her every now and then, but I think it was more for me than for her. blush.gif

luvmykids replied: I still rock my 24 mo old, but not all the way to sleep. Just long enough to snuggle and chill her out. My twins got rocked a lot too but same thing, more for me than them. They all went to sleep on their own.

sydsmomm replied: My three year old goes to sleep in her own bed without rocking, but she has only been out of our bed for about 3 months and I often find myself sandwiched between her and my 8 month old in the middle of the night. I am an attachment parent, so my baby sleeps with me and nurses whenever the mood strikes her. They are only young once, so do what feels right to you! They will be out of your room soon enough. =)

CAMSMOM1 replied:

I rocked Cameron to sleep until I stopped breastfeeding around 6 months old. For some reason, I thought the only way I could get him to sleep was by rocking. So I decided to wean him from that, around 6 mos, and he did fine! I thought it was going to be harder than it was.

It just depends on what you want to do. It's good to have her learn how to fall asleep on their own. But on the other hand, they're only little once! So it comes down to what you want to do.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I rocked Kait until she was around 20 months wub.gif then she stoped asking to be rocked sad.gif she still will ever so often wub.gif I love rocking her.

MamaJAM replied: I never rocked my kids to sleep - at any age. Until around 4/5 months old - I'd often cuddle them until they were asleep...but after that I'd lay them down partly awake so they'd learn to sleep on their own.

booey2 replied: Thomas was never rocked, but Matthew was and I think I was still rocking him til he was 24 months old and then the babysitter and I decided enough was enough (she couldn't rock him for his naps while watching the other kids) so we slowly stopped him from this habit. I also had way more time with Matthew as he was the first born and I couldn't do it with Thomas and he never really needed it.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
We're the same unless Wil is sick or when he was going through such terrible teething and not going down at night. My ped always said not to let them fall asleep in your arms, but I know it's totally a personal preference and IMO, whatever works, do it. Wil just typically goes down when I put him in his crib as long as I time it right...he must have a binkie though! baby.gif

MyLuvBugs replied:
I guess I'm thinking of selfish reasons. I know that I'm not going to be able to hold her on my lap must longer b/c of the new baby belly. So the DH and I have been thinking about trying to get her to sleep on her own, but she's pretty stubborn. I'll let you know how it turns out.

fashionmumofboys replied: No rocking here either.

My boys slept on their own once put into their cribs.

Only rocked when feeling sick or cranky.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy was either rocked or held until 15 months when Matt was born then she moved into a big girl bed (the 2 crib expirament failed miserably). I would usually either lay down with her os rit in the chair in her room until she went to sleep until about 2. Matt was rocked only for a month or so, he prefered laying down so I would rub his tummy until he fell asleep. At about 6 months i had to run and get something and he went to sleep on his own so fro 6 months on he would get a hug and kiss then put in bed.
