Time to install some childproof internet software

MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley is allowed to use the computer to play her videos, music, and play games on Nick Jr. or Elmo's World. She is allowed to do all that herself without assistance.

A few weeks ago, Ashley told DH that she wanted to "go surf dot-coms" LOL! So, she said she wanted to go to "toys.com" DH typed in toys.com..thinking that she would just look around the site, but she tried to order a snow cone maker. emlaugh.gif

Anyways, now that she's had a taste, she'll start out by playing her games but then she goes surfing. Today Ashley was sitting by DH playing her games on the Mac while we were both working and DH looks over and she is filling out a survey in order to get a free trial. She had actually filled out Ashley in the name feild! ohmy.gif

Then, I went to the restroom and came back and noticed the webpage I was working on was in the source code mode instead of preview but thought I had accidentally bumped it. I wanted to get Rod's opinion on something on the page when he noticed that the title had been changed.... Ashley had typed a bunch of random characters for the title! Good thing he caught it before I uploaded the page.

I walked in one time and found a screen that said, "upgrade successful"... I still don't know to this day what software Ashley upgraded. laugh.gif

She is usuallly sitting by one of us when she is on the computer, but it looks like we may have to install some kind of nanny software anyways. She's so darn quick that we would have to watch her every second.

ammommy replied: laugh.gif Dh set up a user ID for Alec that won't allow him to change anything. He is only allowed to get on the computer under his ID and follows that rule, for some reason. You'll have to let me know if you ever figure out what she upgraded laugh.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh sheesh she is one smart cookie, better watch out she will be running the business soon! laugh.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: Wow she must be pretty smart to do all that at 3! You must be pretty proud of her biggrin.gif even if she is getting in trouble.

gr33n3y3z replied: WoW
I guess you have to do something
Ashley is a very smart little girl and it seems she is not only playing her games she is also learning off of you and your DH LOL emlaugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied: ohmy.gif WOW lol emlaugh.gif that is amazing

3_call_me_mama replied: LOL ! that is funny! She and Cameron should swap email addresses. He' salways "checking his email" and going to differnt sites. (We have a kid block so he cant' go to too many) but he types oin a word and then dot com. So he might go to toys dot com and hit enter. Usually it doesn't bring him anywhere. But once he realized that a period on the key board was a "dot" he can now navigate pretty easily from noggin.com and ebay.com (only cause he knows how ot spell ebay we had to block that site form his comp.. dont' need him buying stuff!) He's pretty computer savvy and actually does check his email daily (MEME sends him emails) and we have it sent to a real easy passwrd that he can spell. he loves it cause he can type back to her (He usually just spells out words that dont' really have any connection to each other or he will copy a story form a book!) But it is too funny.
Luck you noticed that change beore you submitted it DeeDee. cause it certainly would have gotten an odd look form your client!!

coasterqueen replied: Oh yikes! what a smart one!

This is one reason Kylie does not use the computer and I'm glad. I'm not ready to intro her to the www, it's too scary of a place. happy.gif

ediep replied: wow! What a smarty!!! I think its hysterical that she tried to order a snow cone machine!!!

~~*Missi*~~ replied: wow LOL. Smart little computer gal you got there.

I would do what a previous poster said and set her up her own user log in. You can adjust it to what she can and cant do see etc...
Thats if you have windows xp
i am not sure if other versions offer this.

redchief replied: Lisa told me about this when I was home for five minutes earlier tonight. Just wanted to let you guys know I've been chuckling about it all night. biggrin.gif

luvmykids replied: What a smart little girl, she knew you wouldn't order the snowcone machine so she was gonna do it herslef! lol

ilovemybaby replied: HEHEHE I think we are going to have the same problem with Abby. She is only 20 months and already has shutdown or restarted the computer a few times, nearly deleted some emails, deleted a program (it was ok though.. found it in the Recycle Bin  ) and she is always typing or using the mouse. She also knows how to open the cd tray. LOL

My2Beauties replied: ohmy.gif She is one smart cookie laugh.gif Wow, Hanna can only type things like

I would definitely get her her own user ID and password and use the parental controls to block certain sites! laugh.gif This is so cute!

C&K*s Mommie replied: laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif that is too funny!! emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif
Christian come on to type her name in the word program, and to play Dora and Poppit. She has yet to realize that she can order things online!!! Although she clicks on different websites.

kimberley replied: rolling_smile.gif lol she is too smart!!!

Insanemomof3 replied: How funny!! I am sure Tristan is not going to be too far behind her on that, although I am mean, I don't usually let him TOUCH the computer. blush.gif I barely let ANYONE touch it. hehe I am so stingy.

TLCDad replied: I just created an Ashley account on my Mac (the computer she uses all the time). This way she can not accidently delete something plus I enabled parental controls on that account.

I am going to have her customize it to her liking, including picking out a background, etc tomorrow. smile.gif

I highly recommend a MAC (OS X) as the first computer for kids. You have more control over the accounts and such.

C&K*s Mommie replied: After reading this post, closing it out. I found Christian doing something in the security part of this computer. I am sure it was harmless, but I went ahead and created her own account with her own pic on it. She picked out the background, and I took out the unnessecary things on the start menu. I still need to tweak any parental controls that I can find, but she is off and running playing on Sesame Street.com on her own. thumb.gif
