Time for her own pillow?

amynicole21 wrote: Last night I woke up and Sophia had crawled up and was sharing my pillow with me wub.gif I think it's time we got her her own pillow to use... anybody else start using one with their little one?

chloe&tysmommy replied: I was just wondering the same thing smile.gif When is it ok for them to use a pillow?

DansMom replied: This may be highly unrecommended, but Daniel has always used the nursing pillow as a pillow to sleep on. My nursing pillow is not the boppy brand, but is about twice as wide, flat (no sloped sides), with shorter arms that don't wrap around you. When he was a tiny infant, he could fit on the whole pillow lengthwise, and I slept right next to him with my arm around him and the pillow. Now he sleeps with it under his head like a normal pillow if he's on his back, but when he rolls over he prefers to sleep flat on the sheet with his head turned to the side and his but in the air. He also occasionally shares my pillow or uses the crook of my arm with his head on my shoulder.

coasterqueen replied: I was wondering the same thing. Kylie loves sleeping on my pillow too. I let her sleep on it when I'm sleeping with her, but that's it for now.

kimberley replied: i think it is okay as long as it is a hypoallergenic non-feather pillow. jacob had his own little fleece covered foam pillow from about 18mos.

My2Carebears replied: I was thinking the same thing. I just wanna find one that is a small size and not big like outrs..hehehe

paradisemommy replied: taven loves to sleep with a pillow but he uses ours since we co-sleep. i would think about a year and a half would be ok..as long as they were strong enough to pick up their head and roll around really good. after all, isn't that what they are worried about most? the baby smothering her/himself in the pillow?? jmho though..

MomToMany replied: We just got Hannah her own pillow, a very flat one.

Here's a toddler sized pillow that you can buy, if you prefer:

HTH!

Kaitlin'smom replied: Well Kaitlin has two in her crib I just put in a month or so ago, they are not real big and they are square, they match her room looney toons, one is tweety and the other is sylvester, she has another one but I am not sure where it is....she loves them. She will hug them and ocasionaly sleep on one, but usually they are at one end and she is at the other. She is more of a side tummy sleeper (just like mommy) and she only uses them when she is on her back and props her feet up on the side! I will have to get a pic next time she does it and post it, she look so cute and funny!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wub.gif Awww what a little sweety! I think I started to give my older children pillows when we put them into a regular bed when they were around 2.

jem0622 replied: Nathan (4) did not get a pillow until he was almost 3. He didn't like them. I would urge you to look into a toddler pillow. Much safer. Check out onestepahead.com or therightstart.com. Pottery Barn Kids might have them too.

3_call_me_mama replied: cameron has been sleeping on a pillow for as long as I can remember ( a big no-no, I'm sure!) But he also was a belly sleeper since conception and refuses to sleep any other way (also a big no-no ). At about 9 months i guess (when he started climbing out of his crib, the few short times he has slept in it, he slept on a mattress on the floor with a pillow, then moved to a toddler bed and has the same pillow. It is a regular size pillow, nothing overly fluffly or anything but i figure he sleeps with them when he's in our bed, it's not any less safe for him to be in his own bed with one, Just my 2cents.gif smile.gif

mummy2girls replied: Im not sure what age..after 12 months i believe... i tried a very thin small one for jenna and she refused to use it. She would squirm to the bottom of her crib to get away from it. So i dont even give her one...

MommyToAshley replied: Interesting... I am still afraid to give Ashley a pillow unless she is sleeping next to one of us. Guess that is the paranoid side of me showing again. I think if I were to give her a pillow, I would look into the toddler pillow too.

Let us know what you decide. I can't believe how fast our babies are growing up.... weren't they just the size of the pillows themselves?!?

surfing replied: i just folder up one of his baby blankets, in half and in half again. it's only about two inches high that way and he loves it. he doesn't mind sharing my pillow with me, but won't let one in his crib, he just pitches it out.

booey2 replied: Both the boys use them and have forever, my neighbour took some regular sized pillows and sewed up the middle of the pillow starting on the long side and made 2 kid pillows out of 1 adult. Looks good and very economical. Did the same with the pillow cases. HTH
