Those with baby girls - wardrobe question

PrairieMom wrote: Ally is going to be wearing a navy blue dress for her baptisim I need to know, what color tights and shoes should she wear?
I have both navy and white tights, and black or white shoes.

Also, when you put tights on them do you put the diaper cover over the tights or just forget the diaper cover all togeher?

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: IS it a plain navy dress???

If it is plain I would probably go with the black and black. If there is white in it I would go with white and white.

Our Lil' Family replied: A rule of thumb my mom taught me, never wear hose or tights darker than your shoes. And if you follow the after labor day rule then you'd have to put navy or black shoes on her. I guess it depends on the dress to determine the tights. Does it have white in it?

As for the bloomers, I think tights alone is how I'd do it.

CantWait replied: I personally hate black with navy, so I'd say go with the white and white.

ETA: My gosh I'm an idiot because I keep pretty post before I'm finsihed. Anyway I also think that regardless of the colour combo, I don't think dark colours from head to toe would be suiting for her baptism, a little morbid.

skinkybaby replied: white tights, black shoes

coasterqueen replied: I agree I despise black with navy. Ick! And if you look in all the celeb mags they are wearing white, it's IN, like it is every after Labor Day season. rolleyes.gif IMO I'd use white hose and navy shoes, but if you don't have navy then I'd go with white. I usually think of white with baptism anyways. Both my girls were dressed in white from head to toe for their baptisms and Kylie's was done in December and Megan's was in August. I also am a diaper cover type of person, if I have them, so I'd put the diaper cover over the tights. JMO.

mckayleesmom replied:
Ditto...I would go with white tights and shoes.

CantWait replied: LOL this is perfect. You can refer back to MommyToAshley's post with Ashley in the navy dress with white tights and white shoes LOL rolling_smile.gif

M2A's post

PrairieMom replied: That is to funny! laugh.gif

Maybe I should take pictures of her in all options and have a poll. laugh.gif
i agree that all navy would look strange, but the girls I work with think the white will be to striking against the blue.

The church we are having this done in is a very informal one, where babys wear a nice outfit, and parents sometimes wear jeans for baptisims, so I would feel strange getting a christening gown and all that for ally and one of those all white suits for Ben. So I opted for the navy.

Ben will be wearing navy pants with a blue white and brown striped sweater from the GAP

Ditto. biggrin.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: White tights, white shoes. If you do choose white tights I would use the diaper cover because the white tights are usually thin enough that you can see the diaper through it.

jacobsmama replied: They will look great! thumb.gif

Brias3 replied: I'm going to say white tights and black shoes. I was usually a diaper cover kind of person too. I had a bunch of pairs with the frills on the butt for Aliyah to wear under her dresses because I always felt that a diaper showed through tights. When she was in an infant seat or being held a certain way, I didn't like the look of seeing the diaper either so I always had the "ruffle pants" as DH calls them tongue.gif

Calimama replied: White on white. wink.gif

cameragirl21 replied: i always thought that you had to wear white to a baptism...not that i'm the expert on these sorts of things.... laugh.gif
ETA--i LOVE your new avatar, Tara, it's so you! happy.gif

Jamison'smama replied: If that is the dress in your signature, I would do navy tights unless the whites are very dressy--thin and fitted. I don't have a problem with black shoes (or no shoes!)with navy. The dress looks pretty formal so I think you need to go the most formal route. Also, diaper cover over the tights as everyone else reommended.

Edited to say--I see you didn't change your signature--you just posted a picture of her in the dress...doh. I love the dress. It is gorgeous as is the baby girl.

PrairieMom replied:
Yeah, I think nost people do, but our curuch is so informal that if we wear the traditional clothes we will look like goof balls. laugh.gif Plus I already had the blue dress.

Kaitlin'smom replied: the dress is very pretty, I woudl go with white tights, white shoes and use the diper cover.

coasterqueen replied: Referring to Marie's link on M2A's Ashley's picture, I really do like the white on white. It doesn't look too striking against the navy, it compliments it very well.

Beautiful dress btw. thumb.gif

siblingtooolivia replied: White tights, white shoes.....she looks adorable!!!

MommyToAshley replied: Beautiful dress!!! She looks so darling in it, good choice.

As you can see by the link above, I opted for the white tights and white shoes with Ashley's navy dress. But, I think you could do either navy or white tights. I don't think I would go with black though.

jcc64 replied: Black would be too funereal, imo. I always like white tights on a baby girl- the shoes you could go either way, imo. And I always did the tights first, then the diaper cover over. I'd definitely use it- it just kind of finishes the outfit off. Cute dress.

MyLuvBugs replied: We always do white for baptisms, so I'm prone to choose the white tights with white shoes over the darker colors. But I LOVE the dress!!! That's really pretty. wub.gif

Cece00 replied: I would do white tights, and go buy navy shoes to match the dress....I also put bloomers OVER the tights instead of just tights

PrairieMom replied:
any idea where the heck I could get navy shoes?

Jamison'smama replied: They are hard to fine--you just need little soft ballet type shoes....no ideas coming to mind. Ebay is probably your best bet but that takes a while. I looked at Stride Rite online and they don't show anything. Department stores or specialty baby stores may be worth a call. I still say she can go without shoes---you could also skip the tights, put fancy socks on her and wear black, white or no shoes. At her age, tights just tend to bag a lot so if it is warm enough fancy socks might be nice. Do you have a Strasburg? They cater to all that fancy stuff.

Cece00 replied:
A baby boutique...they'll probably cost you about $30
