Those who survived a colic baby
lovemy2 wrote: So those of you who had a colicky baby - what were they like? Did they scream all the time, same time everyday, good for a few days bad for a few days?
We seem to be on the good for a few days bad for a few days system.....Ped thinks we have done what we can at this point for the reflux - he is gaining weight, not puking and the nasal congestion has subsided....he really feels that the reflux isn't his only issue that he has an element of colic as well.....so I am taking a new approach and trying to deal with him as a colic baby while still continuing the treatment for the reflux....
And finally - what worked for your colic infant - we just bought some gripe water - figured it was worth a try.......
I feel very overwhelmed and discouraged that I can't enjoy my newborn except for in small doses and also that I am haven't had quality time with Olivia in almost 8 weeks.........................................
TheOaf66 replied: ahh yes colic, Tanner had no pattern but he kept us up a lot of nights, we gave him the gas drops, lots of walking around carrying him...not a whole lot soothed him, it will get better so hang in there, there is not really anything you can do for him.
moped replied: Jack was very colicky - it is hard, but something they do grow out of. Jack would start screaming about 6pm - 11pm every night.......like clockwork. Nothing would help. I just rubbed his back, walked with him, bounced him - anything I could think of.
I also tried the gas drops in his bottle - that helped a bit maybe...........
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Nothing helped Katy...much. We made a CD of our vaccuum and that did seem to help calm her down at night. She was of the colic variety that had absolutely no problem screaming for 20 hours a day and NOTHING we could do would help her
redplaydoh replied: I had this with both until I learned how to adjust my diet. Each reacted to differenty food types. Gripe water helped a lot with Bryan... Here's a website that really helped me a lot. www.colichelp.com
PrairieMom replied: mine had cholic too. When I was nursing her I cut all dairy out of my diet and that helped a TON. now that she is on formula I use a soy based one and that has been working well for us.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Hubby forgot to mention we switched him to Alimentum formula. It is corn based and it is more easily digestable and peds suggest it for babies with colic. It's expensive, but it was a night and day difference. I think it did a world of difference. Soy did not work at all, only the Alimentum.
Also, white noise works well...movement, vaccums, music, natural sounds like waves and waterfalls, etc. Tanner's bouncy seat had a vibration setting that he really enjoyed. It's not something you can make go away, but there are things like that you can do to ease the episodes.
J-rod replied: you jsut described my son to a T. he is 6 months old thursday...and is starting to grow out of it...he has good days and bad....but mostly good now.
when he was colicky he would always screem from around 5/6 to 8/9
lisar replied: Lexi was colic for the first 3 months. She would start every night at 6pm. And would stop at 10pm. It was like clock work. Nothing would soothe her though. I tried it all. Sitting her in her bouncer on top of the dryer while it was going to everything else. Nothing worked. I was so happy when she stopped that.
mummy2girls replied: I know this sounds odd but I used to nanny a very colicky baby.. he was extrememly colicky! and running the vacuummm seemed to work! Im not sure why, it could be the vibration or sound but it worked!!!!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Just an FYI, most, if not all babies have a cranky period where they seem unconsolable. Usually colicky babies scream or cry during all periods throughout the day and evening. Usually colicky babies do not have a pattern (note, I said usually, so it doesn't mean all babies), unless it's often throughout the day. If it's one standard period in the day for a couple hours, it's probably not colic, just the baby being a baby.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I sympathise with you! My eldest daughter Emily had colic for 6 mths. for the first 4 mths. she hardly slept and screamed from the moment she woke up, until she finally went to sleep. We tried everything, switching formulas, warming up her crib, using oval drops in her bottle. She had to be held with her tummy on you shoulder to help relieve some of the gas. After 6 mths she was an angel!
