Those about to turn 4? Birthday Presents?
MommyToAshley wrote: I know there are quite a few about to have birthdays... so, just curious what are you getting your 4 year olds?
I thought about getting Ashley one of those wooden doll houses, but she doesn't seem to play with babies, dolls, or barbies much. She used to play with this big custom built doll house my MIL keeps at her house for Ahsley, but she doesn't play with that much any more. So, I think that would be a waste of money.
I did buy her a Dora scooter (the kind with three wheels). She loves the neighbor girl's scooter and she loves Dora, so I think it will be a big hit. Not sure what else to get her though.
kit_kats_mom replied: wow! 4 nooo....not really.....right?
Ok. I've been thinkng of making one of K's bookcases into a puppet theatre...then I plan on meeting Miss Sophia and having a birthday party weekend at disney...K doesnt' know it yet but we are doing the bibbity boppity boutique salon where K and Sophia get made up as princessess should be fun. other than that. the puppet theater and a bike are all I had planned.
5littleladies replied: I will admit I haven't given it much thought. It's hard to buy stuff for a girl who has 2 older sisters! The Dora scooter is an excellent idea though! Maddie and Meg both have scooters and Bri is so bummed when she can't do it too! I'll probably suggest that one to Jas. I was going to get her an American Girl doll (or more likely a cheaper Target equivalent ) but my mom beat me to the punch and gave her one 3 days ago! She loves it by the way! I highly recommend them!
3_call_me_mama replied: We're stuck for ideas for Cameron. He has everything, and doesn't really need anythgin and plays with very little. Mostly it's dinosaurs, computer, his trains and that's it. He got a scooter for Easter, and a puppet theater for Christmas last year (Which they LOVE but only play with it in spurts) SO we're thinking of Legos (the littel ones as he is bored with teh Duplo size ones) and not sure what else. I really dont' want to add on to anythin he as as there are enough pieces already. SO any idea are great..
We are not doing a big party this year though as teh baby is due abotu 2 weeks before his birthdya and it'll jus tbe too hectic, SO we are having just one friend and his family and grandparents come with us to Chuckie Cheese (it's a real treat as the closest one is 3 hours away!) We're gonna get hotel suites and just stay teh night, us the pool, and play at chuckie cheese and do a special birthday dinner that night. So in all reality more fun for him than a regular party, but no decorations, favors all that (crap that i hate anyway!!) BUT I still will be making a special cake and bringin git , since he can't have food dye it would be kind of silly to use the cake from chuckie cheese! I'm sure he'll have a blast... at least I hope so. (PLus this way it says teh inlaws form traveling 5 hours up to see us and they can just go 2 to get to teh party)
3_call_me_mama replied: Double post! OOPS!!
coasterqueen replied: Presents, huh? Oy!
Well I already bought her those old-fashioned lace cards when I was shopping in Galena. My SIL said my neice loved them and I remember liking them to as a girl. Kylie has been begging for a barbie, but I know it's only because the little girl at daycare got one before she moved away. So not sure if I'm going to do that or not.
You know, I'm not really sure. We just got her a bigger pool and with Christmas right around the corner I think we won't do much if we can try.
We will have a party for her Labor weekend while we are camping w/all my family. We'll have another party for her a few weeks after her birthday as well for others/cousins.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I haven't decided yet. She really wants the Dora house so it might be that. I have to do something special for her this year since we didn't do anything for her last year. We were trying to PCS and were actually scouring the house last year on Jade's birthday. The only other thing is we will probably be moving to Tallahasse about a week before. I just don't know. She keeps saying she wants a party and wants friends there. I was thinking Disney myself, but I don't know.
ediep replied: Jason is getting a new bike, aquadoodle, new leap frog DVD's
My MIL want to get him the Lightning McQueen Car
and we are going to see Thomas the train for Jason's birthday
amynicole21 replied: Other than what Cary mentioned previously, we haven't thought of much to do for Sophia. She loves dress up, so maybe some more outfits or something Other than that, I have no clue.
MommyToAshley replied: Ohhhh, Legos is a good idea. Ashley is bored with the duplo Legos as well, but she loves building things so that is another great suggestion.
I love the American Girl dolls, but Ashley has a lot of dolls that she never plays with. I am afraid it will just sit there.
All of you had good ideas.... As Cary said in another post, I can't believe they are going to be 4!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I bought both Zach and Emilie a small guitar recently. They're not toy guitars, they're real child sized guitars. They cost me 39.99 each, and came with a case - one is red, the other is blue. They LOVE them, especially when daddy takes out his acoustic and I play on our electric. It's great fun!
Otherwise, I put layaway payments on a violin for Zach's birthday. It's the same blue as his guitar. I play the violin, and he is always fascinated when I do - I've let him "try" mine out and he loved it, that's why I bought him one of his own.
Course, we're a very musical family... and I will probably teach my own children how to play... since I play too... but I may still send them for lessons, considering they listen to strangers better than they listen to me
Kaitlin'smom replied: Well you all are a bit ahead of me, thankfully I have till december to figure it all out. She did see a bedroom set she LOVED and asked when I sell my bed can I have that one? Its a very nice collection so I might put it in layaway. Maybe by then I can have it payed off for christmas/birthday.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We are getting Tanner a big boy bike, with training wheels of course. We went to Toys R Us and tried out a few. He's going to need a 16 inch bike. His big wheel is getting pretty small for his long legs!
Last year we got Tanner a Spiderman scooter and he still loves it!!! He even has a little horn on it. I think a scooter would be a hit!
Oh, Tanner also has a LeapPad...the plus writing one for 4-8 year olds, and he adores it!
my2monkeyboys replied: We're having Will a party at Chuck E. Cheese (it'll be his first party not at home in the yard!). I figured out that we'll spend about the same amount of money as we normally do, without the clean-up and having to worry about the weather. We're getting him a bike (training wheels, here, too), and maybe some Legos, a few small things. He has WAY too many toys as it is, and then Christmas is not far either. So we try to keep it small. (Last year he got a trampoline/enclosure for his b-day, so Christmas was kind of small.)
C&K*s Mommie replied: Like you Dee Dee, I like the American Girl dolls. So that will be on the list of possibilities. Although I have not given birthday presents much thought. Dora is still a fave of theirs, so maybe something along those lines.
DansMom replied: Puzzles and books are a given. He's told us many times he wants Cranky the Crane for his Take-along Thomas, so he'll surely be getting that. We're still deciding when we'll do our first "big" party---we might continue with the "number of guests equals the age" rule of thumb this year.
Rocky, those guitars sound great---we definitely need something like that. Musical instruments are always a big hit here too.
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron LOVES his take alongs and insists that if we ever find cranky teh Crane he "HAS to have it" so we are going to get that if we can find one. they sell out quick around here and I haven't had luck finding it online
oh Toys r us had first act brand musical instruments for kids last year. we got the guitar and it's really playable (if that is a word ! LOL) DH cna play it almost as easily as his own guitar, and Cameron is just learnifn a few chords on it. Definately check out their instruments. They had a few oter cool ones if i remember correctly.
Brias3 replied: Oooh, how fun! Aliyah did that when we were there in December and she LOVED it.
BilCon32 replied: I would get the VTECH VSMILE TV LEARNING SYSTEM. The think they are playing games but it teaches them there letters etc...
my2monkeyboys replied: Oh, yeah! Great idea! Will has the VSmile take-along thing (can't remember the exact name of it ). He loves it though... like was said above, it teaches them while they're having fun. With the one he has you can take it with you or plug it into the tv and play it on there.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: We are getting Claudia a 2 wheeler bike with training wheels. She has been talking about this weeks now! My mother is re-doing Emily's barbie house (I bought it at the Salvtion Army for $5.00), it's wooden with 5 rooms. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all finished. Claudia loves her barbies and baby dolls.
