This statement is why I don't like - Chris Daughtery
mckayleesmom wrote: "They didn't have to vote as hard, and I think that was the downfall, in my opinion," he said, refusing to critique the other three finalists. "It was definitely a gut-wrenching moment and I was not expecting it, even a little bit."
To me...that is cocky. When asked about the other finalist a true American Idol would have been humble, and wished them luck.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Wow for sure! I thought he was a little cocky the other night when he was talking about his fans and the differant fan clubs and blurted out I wear Boxer Briefs!
Kaitlin'smom replied: I took that statement so diffrent than you. I did not find it cocky at all but truthfull. I also did nto get they directly asked him, but he would not say anything bad about them. Guess we have different outtakes on the same statement.
luvbug00 replied: i heard that too. no good..
BAC'sMom replied: boo hiss
mckayleesmom replied: Well..that is just part of the statement. If you click on the link with I think E tv,,,in the article BeeKay put up....He thought that he had basically already won.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I took it like that as well. No one expects to lose, but no one expects to win. You hope to win, but he was not expecting to lose- that is what I read out of it.
And when Paula once asked him "do you know how good you are?" or something to that effect, he replied with "only when you tell me". That is a good example of humility there, and unlike what somethings have been written about him.
OTOH, being 3rd runner up, or 1st runner up-- I think there is a certain stigma attached to being the American Idol. He may not have been as accepted if he were the AI of 2006. I think it worked in his favor. I still have respect for him.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I read it, just had a different outtake on it thats all.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Nobody expected it. I wasn't the pick to go home. I've been the pick to win. I'm not trying to sound overconfident. But everyone had been telling me...even the judges said it was going to be a Chris-and-Taylor finale. You try not to buy into that, but when you hear it so much you think, ''Maybe they're right. Maybe I do have a good shot.'' My hopes were up. I was starting to see there's an opportunity to win this thing. And then to have that happen was gut-wrenching. same here as Diane. I read it differently, and this backs up my point. He was/is humble and not cocky.
mckayleesmom replied: Thats a nice statement and all, but to me....just admitting that you thought you had it in the bag is cocky.
If I was on American Idol and thought I had the competition in the bag...I would never say that out loud to anyone. I was raised to be humble and that is not humble to me.
Last year I liked Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice. I liked Carrie a little more and was glad she won, but I never saw an article where Bo Bice said he was shocked because he thought he was going to win. He remained humble.
mckayleesmom replied: Im not saying that it wasn't alright for him to say he was disapointed about going home...yadda yadda, but in that article he clearly says that he thought he was going to win....how is that not overconfident? I don't know about the rest of you all, but my mom would have given me an earful if I said that in an article...that is not how I was raised.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Of course he did - he ALSO said he'd been hearing others telling him that all the time - so how can he not believe it?
Same thing as in school -on the negative side - hearing those popular girls saying you're a loser (not YOU - just in general here... ) eventually you believe thatr you ARE a loser.
Just like you can believe you're a loser, from hearing it so much, it's credible to think that what he saaid is that he thought he was the winner - from hearing it so much.
I think that's how he meant it - that he was told he'd win, so much, that he believed he WAS going to win... so it was some shock NOT to win. I think he was trying to explain that... not trying to be cocky.
But everyone has different opinions... this is just mine
ashtonsmama replied: Oh well.
He's gone now, so I'm cutting him a little slack..
lisar replied: Now I am mad because I missed the show.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Thats exactly how I read it too Brianne.
He was one of my favorites on the show and I was very shocked he left. So Im not thinking he is cocky and reading what he says differantly because of already not liking him.
I hope he can make it somewhere in the music business.
My2Beauties replied: I agree. I didn't take it as being cocky per se, just the self-fulfilling prophecy, if people tell you you're a winner or you're going to win you start to become a winner or think you're gonna win, same as if someone tells you you're lazy constantly, you start to become lazy if you believe it enough! That's what I think.
luvbug00 replied: I personaly can't say i agree. I think if somone tells you your a loser and you believe them it is your confidance that is lacking. He got confidient and he got cocky and even mentioning a fan club ( which shows he thinks he's hot stuff) was inappropriate.
luvmykids replied: Ryan brought up the fan clubs, and I think Chris had every reason to expect to win when people keep saying he's going to. Also, I think humility is great but in a business like that IMHO it takes enormous confidence to the point that some see it as arrogance. I don't think there's anything wrong with being sure of yourself and pumping yourself up that you can win. As shocked as I was, I can't imagine what it would be like when you have so much at stake in it.
holley79 replied: I agree on that one. Hey it was American voting.
