I'm having laser eye surgery next Tuesday... and so today is my pre-op testing... I've got about 2 hours to spend at the hospital this afternoon. I'm going to be having the Wavefront technology test among other tests... so glad about it.
Where I'm having it done is the Ottawa University Eye Institute... one of the leading places, internationally, to have this done. I'm a big chicken about most things (I don't have my driver's license beause I'm a big chicken to drive) so this is a big thing for me...and having it done here is an added bonus and ease on my mind.
I really want this.... so think of me and pray that I don't chicken out!!!!!!

kit_kats_mom replied: my DH just had his lasik surgery on the 12th. He is LOVING it! Just a tip if you are nervous about people messing with your eyes (he is). He had his dr call in a perscripton for 2 valiums and he took one before the surgery to help him relax.

cameragirl21 replied: i've been wanting to get lasik forever so definitely let us know how it goes. problem is, if they screw up, and i have a very minimal prescription (but it's strong enough to wear contacts) then my career is pretty much over, so it's obviously a huge risk for me but i worry that i'll lose a contact in the middle of a runway show or a wedding and then i'm screwed also, even though my camera can make up for it but then i'll need it in front of my face the whole time just to see what's going on clearly and not miss moments. prayers that it goes well for you, Rocky, defnitely let us know.

I have a big one. I'm -6.5 in one eye, and -7 in the other. Thank goodness they do Myopia up to -12....
I'm getting LASIK, not LASEK.... the main difference is that in LASEK they cut a flap of your eye to get to the cornea, in LASIK they don't, they just remove a layer of epitheleal from your eye to get to where they need to be.. I'm not sure if they're going to do the alcohol based solution to slide of the layer of epitheleals, or if they're going to laser off the layer. Either way, I'll have to wear special contacts for a week until the layer of epitheleals grows back. And, put a zillion drops in my eyes per day. And wear protective eye mask to bed.
Amazing the stuff they can do....
A&A'smommy replied: ohhh that is AWESOME Rocky you can do it and just think you will be able to see SOO much better. I want to get it done when we get the money I have horrible HORRIBLE eye site!!!
Calimama replied: How exciting! I bet you'll do fine!
michmom replied: Good luck! I hope everything goes well for you.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I just went this moring to see if I was a canadate for it, I am am now looking into when I want to have it done. Best of luck to you, what do they do for your 2 hours pre opt today? I had all the test today, did not take as long as they thought and when I have it done I will have about 2 hours to dpend there then I get to home and nap the hardest thing for me will not being able to wear contacts for at least 7 days before and NO make up for 7 days after
If anyone is considering it go and have a pre-screaning done most places offer them for free, they will let you know whats best for you.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Well it turned out pretty good... I ws only in there for an hour or so. They did the Wavescan thing again, then I took an eye test like at an ophtamologist's office, then another one, then this pressure test where they put something against my eyeball and test the pressure.
I got the added "bonus" of having freezing drops in my eyes though so that I wouldn't feel anything... except they burned going in.
Next Tuesday, 9:30 am.
Hope I don't go blind...
redchief replied: Rocky, I think you'll be amazed at the results. Two of my very good friends had the procedure and they were both extremely myopic. The surgery has literally changed their lives. One wears no glasses at all, and the other has a very light prescription. I'll be praying for success for you!
Maybe you'll even change your mind about driving when you see how much better your depth perception is.
MommyToAshley replied: Glad to know the tests went well! I didn't even know there was a difference between LASEK and LASIK... I thought people just spelled it differently.
Wow.. next Tuesday. That's great. You can do it!!!
