Think this will work
mckayleesmom wrote: Ok...we really really want to get rid of Neela. I think that she would be a great dog for people with older children, but not only has she bit before, but Im constantly tense around her or when the kids are playing with her because Im afraid she will bite again.
We are thinking of taking her to the no kill shelter and buying a beagle. We are thinking that MAYBE we can tell Mckaylee that Neela got a haircut.......think she will buy it???
mckayleesmom replied: btw...we also think that she possibly has hip displasia....
redchief replied: Hahaha... schemer you! I don't think she'll buy it for a minute.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I wouldn't lie to Mckaylee. She is old enough to know that isn't her dog. And I would research beagles, a lot. We had one when I was about 3 or 4 and she bit me in the face. And we got her after I was born, so it wasn't that I came along and stole her place.
redchief replied: I too have been bitten by a beagle mix; my own dog. Females beagles tend to be a bit flighty and males are often a bit aggressive. They're a hunting breed and prone to biting.
mckayleesmom replied: Oh no...guess I will have to look around. I would really really love to get them a golden retriever or a chesapeak (sp?), but do doesn't want to get a big dog.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I agree - McKaylee is too smart for that.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I would be honest with her. Our girls were attached to Pepper (although we had he a short time) and I told them the truth, as I knew it. She was going to go to live with her sister (not sure if her sis had been adopted yet) but I told her straight out. Sometimes she will ask to see Pepper and her sis, and she even asked the other day to go to dog heaven to see the angels, Jesus and Taison (that totally broke my heart )
I think that our girls are the same age, but I would be honest. Neela needs to go and get more love with other boys and girls.
redchief replied: Goldendoodles are a little smaller than retrievers and have similar temperment. They might still be a bit on the big side though at 50 t0 70 pounds.
Actually I read a little more into the beagle... If you bring a beagle into a family where children are already present, they apparently aren't nearly as prone to aggressive behavior. My dog was in the family before me and that might have had some bearing on why he bit me. I remember as I grew, I loved that dog.
Most of the terrier and spaniel breeds are small and good with children. Good luck, and don't tell Lisa... She wants a dog so badly!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: We may have gotten a lemon of a beagle. All I remember is getting bit, just under my eye. If she had been a bit taller, it would have gotten my eye.
luvmykids replied: My parents have a terrier of some kind, looks like "Tramp" from Lady & the Tramp. He is the BEST kid dog I've ever seen. Don't know if it's his breed or just him, but he's awesome. I try to kidnap him all the time.
EvesMom replied: I think it's all the luck of the draw when you get a dog. They all have their own personalities as we do. Along with that, excessive breeding has caused some of the "good family dogs" to go bad.(health problems and what not). Beagles tend to be a good childs dog because of their size and normally are happy go lucky. But (this is a big BUT) they are hunters, they need to be occupied. They can be extremely stubborn, they like to chew and eat everything. I love labs, but they get big and think they are still little. Most are nice, but then again My family had one when I was growing up and it nearly ripped my brothers face off (he went to a farm, or so I'm told). IMO mutts are the best dogs. They generally have fewer health problems than purebreeds and tend to live longer. After Abraham(our lab) went to the farm, we adopted a shepard beagle mix(Bandit). He was such a great dog. Not too big, not too small, a sweet ,affectionate, gentle friend. He passed at the ripe old age of 18 last year . He never bit a soul, and absolutely loved cats. He made friends with all of the neiborhood felines.

Oh Hon I would like to have a med. to large dog and you know what kind LOL
gr33n3y3z replied: Dont lie to her be up front about it
Just remember all dogs will try something you just have to nip it in the butt But start with a very young puppy so they can grow together older dogs are set in their own ways already kind of hard to break that. Good Luck
danahas4monkeys replied: Yeah I agree, dont lie to her she is way to smart for that! And you have bad seeds in all breeds, you just have to spend some time researching and actually playing with them and you'll find your dog. We have boxers Elvis and Priscilla, Elvis is and always has been the best dog I have ever had, he looks and sounds mean to outsiders but he'd pee on ya before he'd actually hurt anyone he has always been around our kids in fact we had him before we had 2 of our kids, he is always gentle, he likes to "mother" cats lol. Now on the other hand Priscilla is a pain, we have had her a year since she was a baby like 5 wks old, she has been a constant struggle, she jumps wont listen is loud barks all the time and is an escape artist, she is leaving us this weekend, she could be a good dog but I think she'll be happier elsewhere, so I found her a good home on a farm and a nice man who wants to take her!
