They Are Increasing Spencer's Pain Medication
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: He is in so much pain. His mouth is full of sores (which is common with people undergoing chemotherapy) and they think they are traveling down his throat. So they have decided to give him hydromorphone, which is stronger the morphine and doesn't have as many side effects. The main problem right now is that he is not urinating enough, which could be dangerous to his kidneys and liver. So they are giving him a drug called Laysix to help with this problem. I feel so bad for him. He doesn't want me to leave him.
CantWait replied: I'm glad they are finally starting to listen about his pain. I'm so sorry. Give him a hug for us.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh I just saw this... I just posted about Hydromorphone in your other thread.
Is he dehydrated at all?
cameragirl21 replied: poor Spencer. he's lucky to have you for a mom.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Oh, Kirsten. My heart breaks for you. I hope they can get these mouth sores under control soon. Unfortunately they are a common side effect of most chemo courses. The oncologist I used to work for used to write a scrip for what he called "swish" it was a mouth rinse that had lidocaine in it to help dull the pain and allow people to eat and drink. Hopefully these sores will clear up and Spencer can continue with the process of getting better. Here's a few hugs for the both of you.
Kentuckychick replied: Poor Guy, my prayers are with your whole family, but especially with you and spencer tonight. Those sores are one of the worst parts to see. Hopefully they will find something to make him more comfortable. I know they use a lot of the "magic mouthwash" here & I've heard of them giving the children morphine to gargle as well if the pain gets too bad or the mouthwash doesn't work. Hopefully they won't last long and it won't get too bad and the doctors will find some form of relief for him very soon.
I'll keep praying
