The ultimate in frusteration. - My meeting with the dietitian

PrairieMom wrote: I met with the dietitian this morning, and it was a HUGE waste of time. I am so annoyed.
She had no idea about anything about this candida diet, so she left me in room by my self for 15 minutes while she visited with her coworkers and searched the internet for information for me. AS IF I hadn't thought to search the internet myself before setting up the darn appt. growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif The whole reason I was there was because I was getting conflicting info from the internet. What did she have to tell me? "well, there is a lot of conflicting information out there..." growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif yeah? no kidding. dry.gif So, that was a TOTAL waste of my time and $.

On the brighter side, I found a book on line called "the yeast connection" and its companion book of recipes. I ordered it and it should be here in a few days. Hopefully that will have all the help I need. I am so sick of this whole thing.

cameragirl21 replied: hug.gif i'm really sorry, Tara. i'm sure there has to be a simpler way. what about taking probiotics, for instance?
you know, you may be better off going to a health food store, a real one, not like GNC or anything and asking the owner for some advice, they usually know of an herbal way to resolve things.
that's how i got my info about EP oil, even though i got the initial recommendation from a mom whose son has many skin problems but once i got the initial info from her i went to a health food store and spoke at length with the owner who recommended the best oil and gave me dosage information, etc.
good luck with it, no one should have to go through this just to be thrush free! hug.gif

CantWait replied: Sorry Tara, I'd be a little PO'd as well. Hope the book works out better.

Calimama replied: I'm sorry it's so complicated. I hope the book helps! hug.gif

PrairieMom replied:
My Doc told me to stop taking suppliments for the time being, so I had, then I realized me was an idiot, so I started taking my grapefruit seed extract and probiotics again, but Probiotics them selves aren't helping me. So I am going to have to do this diet to weaken the fungus so that what ever anti-fungal med he gives me, or my probiotics and all that can work better. Hopefully I will learn more from that book. I am really looking forward to getting it in the mail.

coasterqueen replied: hug.gif I had the same thing happen when I went to see the nutritionist for dairy-free diet. I walked out there in tears because I already did all the research; I wanted more input from them. dry.gif

Sorry Tara. hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: Tara,

This is going to sound very strange and I don't know alot about it, but there are those places where you can go get 'cleansed'. There are also pills you can take to "cleanse" your body. I wonder if something like that would help to flush out the intestines, etc.???

MyLuvBugs replied: Try a Candida cleanse along with your diet. It really helped me before I had the girls. I had some issues with yeast right after we had gotten married and the Candida cleanse really helped. Also, is your Candida free diet similar to Sugar busters? That's what I had to go on for my insulin resistance. Basically an extreme low sugar diet. Since Candida loves and lives off sugars and carbs, might be something to try.
Sorry you didn't have any luck at the dietician. I've come to realize that the information I research on the internet is usually the same they have anyways, so why waste money ya know. wink.gif I hope you get is all figured out soon though. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I don't really know what sugar busters is. blush.gif
in This diet I can't eat anything with any kind of sugar in it at all. Natural or artificial. no cows milk.
Its low carb, and I can't have anything that has any yeast in it. So, no breads products, basically at all. No alcohol, and nothing that is made by a fermented process, and nothing containing vinigar, so that leaves out all condiments, even mayo. Basically I can have meat, and veggies, the jury is still out on if I can really have fruit or not, and I'm not sure about cheese.

Where do you get candida cleanse?

MyLuvBugs replied:
Oh yeah! That sounds very similar to the Sugar Busters diet. Only you can have some breads in the SB diet, but they have to have more fiber grams than sugar grams....it's a really hard diet to get on. You have my sympathies. hug.gif I went through such bad withdrawls and emotional ups and downs b/c there was so little that I could eat b/c I didn't know any other way of eating/cooking. KWIM? hug.gif

I got our Candida Cleanse from a store in California called Clarks. It's a whole foods/herbal type store. You can get it online too. Just do a google for "Candida Cleanse".

MyLuvBugs replied: Here's a link to the one that we used....

Candida Cleanse - Rainbow Light Brand

siblingtooolivia replied: That really stinks Tara - have you gone online to look for support groups for people dealing with such a dietary issue? Sometimes other people who aren't "experts" but people who have been there may be of more use to you....sounds like alot of it will be trial and error too??

Good luck - hug.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: do you have a wholistic dietician in your area? maybe somebody like that might have more info...
I would also call that dr back that gave you the idea of the diet in the first place and ask him to refer you to someone...tell him the info is conflicting. the worst you can find out is he really doesnt know that much either.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'm sorry you didn't get more help from the nutritonist Tara!

Old Mom Hubbard replied: I looked for a few sites on information regarding Candida diet..and you may have seen it already, but obviously DOCs are useless! They are trained in MEDICINE and when it comes to special diets and food allergies and the like, MOST are just dumb!...Hope something may be helpful to you. Someone mentioned a Holistic Practitioner? I will see if I can find any online that may be of help...

for now, here are a couple of sites anyway...

Candida Diet - 3 levels

Fellow Yeast Hosts --

Building on what Mark Giordani posted re: the 4 steps of Candida treatment as
identified by C. Orian Truss, M.D., I offer the following from this wonderful
book which is no longer in print, but you may be able to get through
inter-library loan.

There have been strides made in the understanding of immune system boosting
as well as in the choices of anti-fungal meds available now that weren't in
1985. However, as Jann Weiss pointed out, we are here to share and take what
we can use. We don't all have to agree. But I hope this helps those who are
struggling to understand and reminds those of us who have more experience
with Candida.

The Candida Cleanse
From Cathy Wong,
Your Guide to Alternative Medicine.

And here is a Yahoo Directory of Holistic Practitioners...
http://dir.yahoo.com/Health/Alternative_Me...olistic_Health/

Certainly hope you can get something as for real help there, and diet and WHAT you can and cannot eat is not too difficult ONCE you can find out those things that are allowed. Best of luck to you there! hug.gif and a hug for support to get you through this.
