The housing market in this town is NUTS!

kit_kats_mom wrote: Ok. We have a 1500 sq ft townhome that was built in the early 80's. It is nice but by no means awesome or anything. Well, our realtor reccomended we list it at 110K even though it appraised at around 96k. I figured, whatever, even 96 is giving us a ton of equity which is nice. Well, it doesn't actually go on the market until Monday but my ex boss and one of my realtors co-workers came to look at the place and both made offers...for the asking price. Now we have a bidding war and the dang place hasn't even hit the market yet! I simply can't believe it. This is crazy! wacko.gif thumb.gif
I'm going to Tampa next weekend to try to find a place that we like. Hopefully we can make an offer and sign a contract so that our stuff isn't sitting a moving van in Tampa for 2 weeks!

kimberley replied: WOW! that is fantastic! hope you find a great place in Tampa! thumb.gif

5littleladies replied: Ok-you think that is ridiculous, when our house is done (addition added) we will have about 1600 finished square feet. With every thing finished our house will appraise at $183,000. We had to add on instead of move because we wouldn't even be able to afford to buy our own house, much less anything else in this town. ohmy.gif

amynicole21 replied: Woo hoo! I know - my sister was putting bids in for houses that were $20K over asking price, and she was LOSING to people who outbid her ohmy.gif blink.gif Insane. Nice to be on the receiving end of that, I'm sure wink.gif

I hope that it's just as easy to find something in Tampa!

MommyToAshley replied: thumb.gif That's a good kind of NUTS if you are on the receiving end.

I hope you find something you like in Tampa!

A&A'smommy replied: WOW thats amazing! thumb.gif

GoodLuck in Tampa!!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: ohmy.gif WOW I hope I have that problem when we sell next year!

jcc64 replied: I haven't been around much lately. You're moving to Tampa, Cary? Dh found a job there, huh? That's much closer to my brother in Naples. Sometimes, if we get a better fare, we land in Tampa and drive the 3 hrs south to Naples. So next time we're down there, watch out!

CantWait replied: OMG that's totally amazing banana.gif banana.gif thumb.gif

kit_kats_mom replied:
Yup. Actually, it's Land O' Lakes, just north of Tampa. He is going down there on Sunday to start work on Monday. K and I will go down there next weekend to try and find a house. I'll be working and packing/cleaning all next week. You will have to let me know if you guys will be nearby. biggrin.gif

ctymom replied: The housing market is crazy everywhere! We have been looking in FOUR states for TWO years now! The price for homes has jumped between $60-$100 grand in a 3-4 year span! mad.gif Now we will have to spend a crap load of money to buy a home. We will more than likely get $60 grand over what we paid for this house and it was built in 1890! Connecticut is super crazy....for a new home, they are asking about $400 thousand for a 2,200 sq ft home in some towns. wacko.gif

We are still house hunting b/c we need another bedroom for our baby. It's not easy having her crib in our bedroom. She wakes me up everytime she moves! baby.gif

Good luck with everything,
Pamela

KatieLeigh79 replied: Lucky Lucky! smile.gif With the economy here our house appraised at 192,000 this year when we looked to refinance yet with as bad as the job market is here in MI at this time (mostly an automotive reliant economy) the most we could get for our place if we wanted to move atm would be 145,000 (that is what the 2 houses next to us sold for because they had to get out of town from job loss and what not... Rather scary to know we don't even have equity in our place yet and have had it since 6 months after it was built in 2000! wacko.gif
