TANNER'S MOM replied: I didn't recognize the song..so I looked up the lyrics and of course I bawled and bawled.
The Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously Pacing 'round like little boys do And in his hands he held a pair of shoes His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe And when it came his time to pay I couldn't believe what I heard him say Chorus: Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight He counted pennies for what seemed like years Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here" He searched his pockets frantically Then he turned and he looked at me He said Mama made Christmas good at our house Though most years she just did without Tell me Sir, what am I going to do, Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out I'll never forget the look on his face when he said Mama's gonna look so great Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight Bridge: I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love As he thanked me and ran out I knew that God had sent that little boy To remind me just what Christmas is all about Repeat Chorus
5littleladies replied: I cry too-It's so sweet and sad!!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: There is a made for TV movie called "Christmas Shoes" (I believe) and it is all about this song. DH laughed at me for crying at the movie. I can't remember when it came on, but it was really sad. Especially when they played this song at the end.
My2Beauties replied: I had never heard of that before until now and when I read the lyrics I got teary-eyed
gr33n3y3z replied: I hate to be the odd ball here But I dilike that song so much It started out as a poem and they should have left it that way
Alice replied: I will stop what I'm doing to walk across the room and turn off the radio when it comes on. (That, and "Dance with my Father") I cannot listen to either song without crying. So I don't.
mummy2girls replied: Ive seen the movi to this song and yes i bawled like a baby!
loveydad replied: I've heard that song before. Really pretty. Alice, I love that song, Dance with My Father. I swear it makes me cry too. I've got it on cd around here and Tracy just adores it.
Alice replied: My dad died after a long bout with cancer in January 2002. It seemed that all that was on the radio that entire winter was those 2 songs. Just what I did NOT need (and being very pregnant at the time probably didn't help either: Kira was born 2 weeks to the day after we buried dad.)
So as much as I love a good ballard, I can not listen to either of those 2 songs.
A&A'smommy replied: I LOVE that song too!! Every year Andy Phillips (the new yankees player) sings that song at church and I cry, it is SO beautiful!!!
A&A'smommy replied: that came out last year but I forgot to watch it (maybe it was two years ago)... Maybe I will be able to see it this year!
