The Notebook - why, oh why???

Danalana wrote: One thing that is very important to know about me is that I am a big sap (no, I didn't mean "soap"). I'm seriously the most tender-hearted person I know. Anyway, while I was away this weekend, we watched "The Notebook". I read the book and i have seen it once already. LOVE IT. The first time I watched it was a disaster. I cried like you would not believe. I really thought I could hold myself together this time, though. It was just us girls and we felt like a good "cry" movie. Let's just say that I didn't do well at all. You never would have guessed that I had seen it AND read the book. I was embarrassed, to be honest...my 2 girlfriends were jsut watching it with a little tear in their eyes, while I looked and sounded like somebody really died--right there. In front of me. I think the problem is that i am always putting myself in other peoples' shoes. Like, I was imagining what it was like for Noah to read to his wife the very words she had written so long ago, jsut hoping to get a glimmer of recognition from her. Crap, I'm about to cry now! mad.gif Sometimes I hate being so "soft".
Does this happen to anybody else?

Nina J replied: The first time I watched the notebook, I cried for over an hour blush.gif And also, the episode of grey's anatomy with the train crash and the 2 people, I bawl like a baby. But I'm usually okay with other movies and tv shows.

Danalana replied: Oh yeah....i went into the bathroom and continued to sob for a long time when it was over. my friends sort of laughed and made fun of me, but i know they thought I was crazy. they both hugged me when i came out blush.gif I'm a huge dork baby.gif

Nina J replied: The problem with me and the Notebook is when I do stop crying, I think about the movie and cry again. DH cries in it too. He watched it alone the first time, so when I watched it with him he didn't cry as much. But I cried alot..he laughed a bit but he told me he cried like that when he first saw it, so I felt better.

If you're a dork, I am too laugh.gif

Danalana replied: I guarantee richard would cry...
yep, Nina, we're dorks.

CantWait replied: Well I've watched "The Notebook" at least half a dozen times already, I own it, and it's one of my all time favourite movies. Would you believe each time I watch it, I cry more then the last??? Yuppers. I normally weap, tear up, cry a bit at sappy movies, but this one takes the cake. bawling.gif bawling.gif

Danalana replied: I'm starting to feel better about this all the time wink.gif
maybe my friends are the weirdos emlaugh.gif

HuskerMom replied: What is it about? I'm always up for a good tear-jerker. bawling.gif laugh.gif

CantWait replied:
How could you NOT cry at that movie??? I think you seriously have to be cold and heartless not to. emlaugh.gif tongue.gif

Danalana replied:
It's about undying love...yep, that pretty much sums it up. Man, you gotta see it! But have a lot of tissue around.

Miranda1127 replied: i guess i'm not much of a cryer. i thought it was pretty good but didn't hit me like that kwim

PrairieMom replied: I'm always doing it too. In HS the movie pretty in pink would always get me crying. I was just so sure that one would ever love me like that.

Nina J replied: I was thinking about this and trying to remember which other movie makes me cry alot, because I knew there was one. I just remembered that My Girl makes me cry so much, but I don't know anyone else who cries alot in it blush.gif

hoosier momma replied:
It always makes me cry too. My husband refuses to watch it anymore because he always cries.

luvbug00 replied: I Rarely cry durring movies. only 3 have moved me to tears..
The notebook
the color purple
land before time

grapfruit replied: Oh that sounded like you were talking about me!!! biggrin.gif LoL! I cry (pretty readily) at commercials! And those are just 30 seconds long!!!! Don't feel bad, I'd be sobbing right along w/you. The first time I watched Armaggedon (whoa, bad spelling tongue.gif ) I sobbed like that. And that's not even a "cry" movie! LOL! laugh.gif

grapfruit replied:
Awww! That's sweet! I can't remember ever seeing Tim cry....

I cried at (is at the right word??) Radio too...that one killed me. I'll have to think, b/c I know there's a bunch more. Tim actually threatened to turn off the movie b/c I was crying so hard. It was just so sad!!!!

I hate it when you see those movies in the theater and you're sitting there bawling at the end and they turn the lights back on. I always feel like a heal. LoL.

stella6979 replied: When it comes to movies, I am the biggest sap ever. I've never seen The Notebook, but a few movies that get me every time are..."My Girl", when Veta starts yelling "he need his glasses, he can't see without his glasses". Ya, I had to leave the theater when I saw that one. Also, "Ghost", "Old Yeller", "E.T.", "John Q", "Steel Magnolias"....good grief...I could keep going. biggrin.gif

Danalana replied: Oh Casey, you and I would make a fine pair at the movies emlaugh.gif
Here's some more that do it to me:
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
Titanic
A Walk to Remember
A Message in a Bottle (HATE the ending)
Radio
Remember the Titans
Love Story (it's old...you should see it if you haven't)
Where the Heart Is
Simon Birch
Stepmom

I'll think of more in a few minutes...

Danalana replied: How the heck could I forget Old Yeller? I am unconsolable during that one. Also, Where the Red Fern Grows. i could never even handle the book when i was little.

moped replied: I always put myself in other peoples shoes too - watcfhing tv or movies for sure. Tom laughs because he says "it is jsut a movie"....but I feel like I am in it!

Danalana replied: laugh.gif YES. People are always trying to tell me "It's not real....it's just a movie"...duh! It's obviously having a profound effect on me anyway! I know the notebook isn't real, but dementia and alzheimer's are. People really do forget the people they love and are stolen from their families. That's why it upsets me so much. *sigh* I still want to cry, and being on my stupid period is NOT helping me.

Crystalina replied: I always cry at that movie. I'm not going to give it away but I think it really hit a nerve for me because of the job I had. Anyone who saw it may know. So sad. sad.gif

CantWait replied:
I'll bump this question up for you because I really don't know how to explain this one without giving it away.

Crystalina replied:
It's a realistic love story. And yea, you really can't say much without ruining it for everyone. happy.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: That is one of my favorite all time movies!!! BUT the book and the movie don't end the same way....One of my best friend's sent me the sequel to the Notebook recently (it's called The Wedding) It is a continuation of Ally and Noah's family and Noah is still in the story-It was very good!

A word of caution though-I thought I would check out some of his other writing and I read Message in a Bottle. It ends badly!!! sad.gif

Danalana replied: Ooooooooh, I love The Wedding! I cried in that one too! Yes...Message in a Bottle is the worst ending ever. That, and "man on fire"...stupid ending.
