The Girls Debut!

I started having some painful contractions around 7 PM on Tuesday night, but they weren't really all that regular. We started playing the Waiting / when do we call the Dr game.

i finally decided to just go to bed and get come rest around 11, and as soon as I layed down, my contractions stopped. So, I thought it was false labor. Well, then around 2 am I decided that I was hungry so I had a bowl of cereal and the contractions kicked back in.
I hopped in the shower at 5, and DH was up after that. I must have looked really "ready" because he was in a huge hurry to get me out of the door.
We got to the hospital at 7 am, and they checked me, I was at a 4, so I got admitted. When the dr got there at 8:15 I was already at a 6 so he broke my water. By 9:00 I was a 10. I started pushing, and she started to get into distress a little, so I ended up having a vacuum extraction, They only had the vacuum attatched for 1 push, and I pushed a total of about 12 times and she was born! 9:32 am! Talk about quick!

They figured out that the reason she was in distress was that her umbilical chord was attatched to the placenta wrong. It was partly attatched to the bag of waters. Which I am told could have been extremely bad news. The Dr. was like, wow, look at this! I can't believe that she survived! usually babys that have that don't. but, we are both okay, so that is what matters in the end.

She has been nursing, but my poor nipples are SO SORE! The lactation consultant said he had a good latch and all that, so I guess I am just a lot sensitive for now.

I'm not even going to get into how "helpful" the consultant was. that is a sotry for another board. You nursing mothers will be appalled!

The first thing he said to us when we got home was "thankyou for my sister!"
He has been so good with her. He is a little "mad" at me tho. He ended up in time out before i had been home for even an hour. I can't blame him tho. This is going to be a huge adjustment for him! The real test will be when his Auntie leaves on monday and his grandparents leave later next week. I hope he adjusts well.

Did you have an epi? I can't believe you were already at a 4 when you got to the hospital. Sounds like it all went really quick! Crossing my fingers I have the same experience.

No, I really wanted to try with out, then I ended up not having time. I did have a shot of stadol tho. I wasn't sure it was going to help, but the pain was getting so bad I couldn't relax through the contractions any more, so I tried it, and it ended up helping me relax. I'm glad I did it. I am WAY more scared of an epi than I am of the pain of labor.
Really the worst part was the Episiotomy, ( Dr complained about the dull sissors) and the vaccum insertion. that all hurt WAY worse than what the baby was doing to me.

Wow... I had never heard of the cord being attached to the bag of waters like that. So glad you and the baby are doing well!

And where did you find that TINY bow for her hair?

They put that on her in the nursery. It is held on with KY jelly. out of all the uses for that stuff, I never would have guessed it would work as a light adhesive!
