The Choking Game

A co-worker of mine, was grocery shopping with her son today. She mentioned that they had just came from a funeral, she told me that her son went to the same school as Emily. So I asked if this was the funeral for the girl. She told me it was. The girl had played this game, where she choked herself to feel the high and ended up killing herself! It's very upsetting and has affected the whole school. My co-worker said there were about 500 students at the funeral and that the priest had talked directly to them, it was an open casket. She said that a lot of the kids had a hard time with it. Emily has told me that there are extra counsellors on duty at the school to help the kids deal with this. It's so sad, she was so young!

I don't understand where these kids learn these things and why they think this is a fun game! I've talked to Emily and one of her friends is taking it really hard. I told her that she could come and talk to me or her dad anytime. It's just really sad that this has happened!

kit_kats_mom replied: that game was popular among the popular kids in my middle school back in the day. It is sad and very stupid. I realized that even as an 11 year old and never participated.

It's just such a senseless tragedy.

Yeah I remember that also and many other games which I never did which were just as messed up.

Adults choke themselves during sex either way partner or non so they feel it 10x better or some crap so I'm sure thats where the choking comes from but I cant be sure of that either but that has been around for ages

She was only 13. I too remember this game when I was in Grade 5 & 6. The kids sneaking behind the portables, it's very sad!

My2Beauties replied: Wow, I had never heard of this before. I've heard of it in a sexual manner but never just kids choking themselves. God I definitely would not get a hugh off choking myself. That is so sad and senseless

She's doing okay, but one of her friends fathers passed away and another friends grandfather passed away. So she is having a hard time with all of that and being there for her friends.

redchief replied: I've been unable to breathe... and not because I was doing anything to myself. I don't understand what kids see in this that is positive... It scared the heck out of me! I repeat, there was no "high." I was scared out of my mind.

Kids are just so stupid and uneducated and about how dangrous these things can be.
Very sad indeed but then what drives a kid to do this a lack of something thats for sure.

Mommy3 replied: My daughter is in middle school and told me of a game of the same nature. These boys was in the bathroom and squeezing each other extra hard just to see who can take it..well one boy end up passing out behind it..idk where these kids learn these stupid games from
