The 80's revisted

TANNER'S MOM wrote: My daughter told me today that the 80's are back.. She said people are starting to wear the "flashdance" sweat shirts and work out clothes..

My Dh looked at me and said OH NO SPANDEX again.

My daughter asked me what things from the 80's I remember..

Leg Warmers..and I guess Tight Rolled Jeans...The tighter the better. We used to pin them together.

And BIG HAIR...lord I can still do some big hair. I have to try really hard to not have BIG hair. DH says he hopes that part comes back in..b/c it would mean he could arrive on time somewhere again wink.gif

Becky74 replied: Why would anyone WANT to bring the 80's back?!?!? rolling_smile.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: OMG I dont want to see this lol

0-10andbackagain replied: NOT AGAIN! But yes its true!lol

kimberley replied: LOL

i remember...
big hair, big belts, pointy shoes, mesh tops, rubber bracelets, glam rock, sunglasses at night rolleyes.gif , tight pants, popples, knight rider, pop rocks and pixie sticks lol i could probably go on forever, but i thought i'd spare ya....

gag me with a spoon! rolling_smile.gif

0-10andbackagain replied:
rolling_smile.gif I remember that!

A&A'smommy replied: OMG I think your right... I have seen the spandex OH NO that is one decade i didn't like (the fashion I mean) wink.gif no offense though

Kirstenmumof3 replied: rolling_smile.gif Why would anyone want to bring those nasty leg warmers back! puke.gif I didn't like the styles of the 80's either.

Jamison'smama replied: Wow, my junior high and highschool years revisited! I remember things being very "matchy" On my first day at a new school--my freshman year, I had to wear an "outfit" that I decided on weeks before---jeans, a white puffy sleeve shirt with a red belt, red shoes, red headband and a red purse. I was stylin'. My jeans had zippers on the ankles.

What about the paperbag waistband? Wasn't that the 80's?

Scrunch socks, shoulder pads and big earrings!

I loved to wear, a big shirt with shoulder pads, worn over leggings with a low-slung large belt and big hoop earrings. Wow, I was so attractive wacko.gif

Remember the store 5,7,9?

kit_kats_mom replied: patachute pants, sweater dresses, leggings, big earrings, neon colors, silver accesories, zippers on clothes, big belts, skinny ties, shoulder pads...

this was my decade but the clothes...ugh!

moped replied: All the styles from the 80's are coming back - the flat shoes.............and I especially loved the music!! LOL

moped replied: Ok......does anybody remember "harem pants" same time as the stirrup pants, but they were more balloon like????????

ANYBODY???????

kimberley replied:
laugh.gif oh no! i had happily blocked those things out of my mind! LOL my mom was a big fan of harem pants dry.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
My mom was too...she use to buy them for me and I would cut the stirup part out. I hate stirup pants....barf.....Remeber those shirts that turned colors while you wore them, jelly shoes ( I think they had a deal going with Dr. Scholls when they invented those,,since all you got was sweaty feet and blisters), Bubblegun in the milk cartons

mckayleesmom replied: McHammer pants, plastic earings, the doll thats hair grew when you cranked her arm, corderoid pants (my mom made me wear a pair of baby blue ones all the time...I would cry...I hated them)..I will scan a picture later.

Josie83 replied: Okay I hate to do this to all of you but I was still in babygros and ankle socks in the eighties wink.gif laugh.gif emlaugh.gif xx

3_call_me_mama replied: I wasn't that old either but i remember all the things... big wheels, punky brewster (mostly childhood things vs. teen/fashion) and all the toys that are popular again now... (skip its, cabbage patch kids, popples, pound puppies, my little pony, strawberry shortcake, etc)

I remember the fashion though from tv shows like "growing pains" "who's the boss" " full house" "perfect strangers" (most of them are still on reruns now but i think they started in teh 80's (had to cause the old\en twins are like in their 20's now and they were babies when full house started!?)

kit_kats_mom replied: And how did I forget members only jackets and acid washed jeans? rolleyes.gif

Jamison'smama replied: during the earlier 80's--my junior high years, the preppy look was in--I remember "The Preppy Handbook" pink and green was the preppy color combo, Polo and Izod shirts, ribbons in my hair to match every shirt, penny loafers, argile kneesocks, Ocean Pacific t-shirts, Levi, 501, shrink-to-fit jeans.

I also remember prairie skirts and those lovely high-neck ruffled shirts---mmmm, so pretty. I was wearing one in a picture of myself standing by my Outsider's (movie) bulletin board--loved that Ralph Machio, C. Thomas Howell smile.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: oh...ribbon & feather barrettes

Jamison'smama replied: It's hard to know what was local or national but it seems like most of the stuff is pretty common to all of us--I spent hours making those ribbon barretts. Did anyone make "friendship pins" tiny beads on the little gold safety pins and you would line them up on the last shoelace on your tennis shoes?

I wonder what we will be talking about from the 90's or 2000's--belly shirts, low riders, piercings and sag clothes? I think I'd rather my daughter dress from the 80's even though the style was ugly--it was still pretty modest.

Kaitlin'smom replied: laugh.gif I love the 80's but ya soem of the fashion rolling_smile.gif funny

Mommy2BAK replied: blush.gif Well, I was born in '84, but when I look back at pics I want to hurt my mother for doing my hair the way she did. I remeber she always had a can of MEGA HOLD hairspray that she would cover my hair with. She would hold out the sides of my hair and spray them so they would stand out on their own. rolleyes.gif Totally embarassing now when I look back at the pics! blink.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I was born in 1980 so I was still a kid then but I remember some stuff - I was totally into carebears and popples and my little pony! happy.gif I remember when I started rolling and pinning my jeans... and I always wore leg warmers! laugh.gif And don't ask me why but I adored stirrup pants! ohmy.gif *shudders*
Most of the horrible fashions I remember were probably in the early '90's though... like the huge plaid shirts my sister and I wore EVERYWHERE. rolleyes.gif

moped replied: Headbands and fun colored shoe laces (each shoe had a different color)..........................LOL..........and the spiked hair - OH MY!!!!!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Oh man this is a walk down memory lane. You just have to walk around in the toy section to remember the 80's. All of the toys from the 80's are back on the shelves. I was a big fan of the stirrup pants and sweater dresses. What about jelly shoes? I think I had a pair in every color. Then there was that weird inside out clothes thing. I think that came out of flashdance. Yes and the hair. I had big hair which was only acheived with the Aqua Net Super Extra Hold. Got to love the 80's.

kit_kats_mom replied:
I always wanted big hair in high school. figured it would balance out my hips rolleyes.gif
But my stupid hair was made for this decade...straight as a poker, fine as frog hair and refuses to hold a curl even with a perm. Had to go for the short Flock of seagulls looks if i wanted to have any body. Poor me bawling.gif
