That was one expensive piece of crayon! - With a picture of it
mommy~to~a~bunch wrote: Wow, we got the statements from Abby's helicopter ride & her hospital stay - $22,000! I have no idea how much insurance will cover, since our policy changed this year, and I still can't figure it out .
Abby is completely fine; no problems anymore. It's so scary what can happen in an instant! The doctor kept the piece of crayon to show us, and everyone was curious to see it too. The color has changed some; it was the color "wild blue yonder" from Crayola. You can see it started to melt.

Kaitlin'smom replied: wow that piece was really not very big, wow just glad she is ok
lisar replied: Oh wow. I am so glad she is okay though.
amynicole21 replied: Oh man... such a tiny thing! Maybe you should send the pics to crayola
I'm glad she's still doing ok.
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Yeah, I should. They'd probably give us free crayons .
Crystalina replied: Send them the bill while your at it.
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: LOL!
A&A'smommy replied: wow its so little!!! Thats insane what something like that can do
My2Beauties replied: Wow it's so tiny, bless her little heart! Poor thing, and poor momma, $22k
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Seriously, send them a letter explaining the details, and ask if they would cover a portion of the bill. I mean, their product almost killed a child, even with all their claims of safety.
If a woman can sue McDonalds for hot coffee being hot and win, I'm sure Crayola would be fine with giving you a bit of $$.
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: I just might do that Rocky!
Calimama replied: Wow!! It was tiny!! I'm glad she was okay. I can't even imagine.
boyohboyohboy replied: I am so glad that mollie's dgt is fine also..but it really isnt the crayon people's fault. they are safe if swallowed,my son has eaten many boxes by now, but mollie's dgt inhaled it into her lung, thats not something that is typical, it was horrible, but it was an accident. I do think you should write and tell them and show them the pic also though, it might be something that they really never heard of...not for the sake of getting anything in return but just as information on their part.
Cece00 replied: Agreed, its not Crayola's fault. They can not control if your child eats a crayon, as they are not there to watch your child. Their product is made for children and is non toxic, and they have no fault in this.
My son aspirated dried caulk when he was 10 months old...he picked up a piece off the floor (we were remodeling & some accidently fell on the floor & we didnt see it), chewed on it, and coughed, and aspirated it. I did not sue the caulk company. And I had a bill that was $17k, for 3 days in the hospital and XRAYS and 3 different attempts to remove the caulk & treatment for the beginning of pneumonia.
I am very glad she is OK, though. Since I have experienced this first hand, I know how very very scary it is. I will just hope she will have no residual respiratory issues from it- my son did for a couple of years.
MommyToAshley replied: Wow... I still think about what a freak accident that was. It's good that you were there and knew exactly what to do. I'm so glad she is ok. I bet she never eats another crayon though.
I hope your insurance covers most of that bill.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm so glad to hear that she's okay! It's amazing that something so small can cause such a scare!
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Thanks everyone! It was a scary experience, a freak accident; no I don't blame Crayola for it, I doubt I'll write them a letter. It was my own fault that it happened, even though she was sitting right on my lap. I should've kept them out of her reach .
sparkys2boys replied: Well, all said and done I am just glad that she ok. Really, that is the main thing here
MommyToAshley replied: I think you should still send it to Crayola, even if you don't expect them to pay for anything. They may change the shape or consistency of crayons or something to prevent them from breaking off so easily... you never know.
