Teething advice PLEASE!!!!!
coasterqueen wrote: AHHHHHHHH! I think teething is one of the worst things a parent has to deal with, btw. I don't know if Kylie is teething or not! I've explained her usual "ways", well now I think she is also teething, but I can't tell. She is not acting like all the other times she's teethed but it has been 4 months if not more since the last time she has teethed.
She has had a slight (very slight) fever off and on for a week now. She has had a snotty nose. She is chewing on things more than usual. And she is worst than ever when it comes to sleeping, if you can imagine that even possible. Now she's never had a fever or runny nose with teething before, but our sitter keeps telling me it has to be that.
If I give her motrin or tylenol she is much more liveable. She is obviously in pain of some sorts, but not sure if it's teething. She's not tugging at her ears which leads me to think it's not an ear infection. She won't let me in her mouth to see if she is teething. If I do get a finger in there, it's OUCH! PLEASE LET GO!
So do I keep giving her motrin or tylenol before she goes to bed to help her sleep or what? It can't be good for her. Once I gave her the motrin she slept for 4 hours last night. I HAVE NEVER GOT 4 HOURS OF SLEEP AT ONCE! I asked DH this morning if we could just give her a nightly dose of motrin, lol. Just kidding, though.
Any advice?
jdkjd replied: When Bailey is teething we give her Motrin or Tylenol before she has her bedtime bottle. And then another dose if she gets up after 12. There is no harm in giving them pain relief especially if you know what the problem is.
Just my opinion.
coasterqueen replied: The problem is I don't know for sure if it is teething I'm just assuming it is because nothing else seems to be the case. She was on antibiotics a few weeks ago for a cold/tonsilitus. Maybe she still has that, but I'm just not sure. I hate to take her to the doc for them to tell me she's teething.
aspenblue1 replied: Isabella would also pull on her ears when she was teething esp for her molars. She also wouldn't sleep well when they were coming in. As far as the runny nose Isabella has had a runny nose every time her teeth came in.
mummy2girls replied: She had problems with the top 2 teeth..she ran a slight fever and was just plain miserable. Ive given her motrin for the pain at night. But also i gave her hylands teething tablets. Its all natural and it worked wonders. You ususally can get them at a health food store or in walmart also.
amynicole21 replied: I think that you'll be ok giving her Motrin each night... she's obviously in pain from something, and needs relief from whatever it is. If she isn't better in a few days, take her in to recheck the tonsilitus. Poor Kylie
coasterqueen replied: I'm actually having DH pick up some of those tablets today. I told him this morning that I wanted to try them.
If it is teething this time just seems sooooo different than all the other times. But then again she got most of all her teeth before she was a year. I forget things so easily, lol.
jen replied: Good luck in finding out what it is that it bothering her. Poor lil kylie.....
MommyToAshley replied: It sounds like teething. But, I know what you mean about wanting to know for sure, I don't like to give meds unless I have too either.
Which teeth are coming in now? The two teeth (next to the front four middle ones) gave Ashley the hardest time. SHe wouldn't let me look in her mouth when she was cutting those, but she was a little warmer and chewed on her hands like crazy. She was sooo hard to get to sleep for a few days and kept waking up ... I did end up giving her Motrin. She must have gotten some relief because then she slept great. I did this for two or three days until they popped through.
Tylenol didn't work for teething for Ashley. (Only Motrin) And the teethign tabs didn't work for her molars, although they did great on her other teeth.
I used to hang Ashley upside down and she would smile real big and hold her mouth open... that's the only way I could see if she was teething. Maybe see if there is a way to get Kylie to smile so you can take a quick peek. I don't know how Kylie is, but Ashley had the hardest time the day or two before they popped through the gum. So, maybe Kylie's is ready to pop through the gum. IMO, I would give her the Motrin for a few days, and if she is still having problems then maybe take her to the Ped just to make sure it isn't something else.
I hope she is feeling better soon, and if it is teething -- sending some quick and easy teething vibes!
Schnoogly replied: Karen, I know what you mean! It's hard to tell, I mean he seems like he's ALWAYS teething. On top of his normal behavior, it's just impossible. It's so hard to tell if he's just having a bad day or if he's in pain.
Basically, we give him a lot of tylenol and motrin. I know it's probably not that good for him, but I look at it this way. If it were me and I were hurting, I'd take the tylenol. Plus, he is absolutely impossible when he's teething. You know what I'm talking about. He WILL NOT sleep and he just screams and kicks and acts horribly all day. Is that better than getting tylenol or motrin? Probably not. Sometimes when he's just majorly fussy and I'm not sure if he's teething I give tylenol anyway. Usually he falls asleep right away, so I know that he had been in pain. To be honest, there are some weeks that he does get a nightly dose of motrin. And he sleeps better. Is sleep deprivation (for them) better than getting some motrin? I actually don't think so.
booey2 replied: Hi, I would definitely take her back to the doctor if you feel there is something wrong. My doc always said that mothers usually know when there is something up with their children. Both our boys get ear infections and they didn't always pull on their ears. Good luck and hugs to you all.
coasterqueen replied: LOL. I will have to try the upside down trick. That just might work. I've tried making her giggle etc, but she is just no fool, she knows what I'm up to, the little stinker.
It is her 2 year molars, the back back ones.
I'll let you know how the trick works, lol.
Heather replied: It is possible it is teething. But ear infections have the same symptoms as do other symptoms. Give your doc a calll and see if they can advise you! Alison got all her teeth almost all at once(over a range of 5 months) She has 16 teeth now. It is the worst thing they have to go through.
I hope she feels better soon!
