mom2my2cuties replied: Yeah this was interesting.
Next time i break a law I am going to offer to donate some money to charity, pay a faine, forfiet the bond and offer an apology in order to avoid jail time.
redchief replied: This one appears to be more about politics than about justice. Chapman captured an evil, vile, rich man and brought him back to the states to finish trial. I think his biggest problem was in leavng Mexico. I'm no advocate of Mexican law, so I hope he gets his deal.
mom2my2cuties replied: I totally agree with you Ed - I do think he should get this deal - the man he captured warrants that.
But I think that the way the deal is laid out really makes no sense...I personally think it should have just been said he is going to be required to pay some fines and make an apology.
It is hard for me to explain - it really seems like when you are famous - you are practically "untouchable"
luvbug00 replied:
it really is stinky that it;s like that. but I think of all the celebs HE deserves to get out scott free.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I watched the special on TV last week and I really feel for the whole family! He captured someone that the FBI couldn't even capture. I think it's wrong for him to have to spend anytime in jail. I watch his show every once in a while and I think he is a great guy.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I still think Mexico is ticked because Andrew Luster is not spending $$$ down there anymore! How is it that we are willing to punish someone who caught a criminal that our authorities couldn't (or wouldn't ) catch?
The article says that he was given 'flawed legal advice' which could be because in Mexico they can and will change the law to fit the situation-especially if you are an American with some dinero!
Crystalina replied: Exactly what is he apologizing for? Is he apologizing to the U.S. Marshals because he did what they didn't (I realize that they couldn't cross the border)? Is he apologizing to us for locking that rapist up? or is he apologizing to Mexico for robbing them of all the money that was being spent there? Just wondering. I don't think she should apologize for anything. He did many women a favor and it's a shame that Mexico has to drag this up three years after the fact.
Jolyn replied: I really pray that that this will work and Dog, Tim and Leland get off!!!!!! The entire situation is rediculous!!! The government should never have aggreed to arrest them!!!!
lisar replied: I am still standing with the DOG on this one. They guy he captured was a rapist. I have no problem with him breaking the law in Mexico to go and catch a rapist. On the other hand him getting out of it by paying a fine and everything. Thats another thing. But still he got a rapist off the streets. Thats the way I see it. Again this is just my opionion.
lisar replied: I totally agree.
Cece00 replied: I think he is apologizing for leaving the country & looking like he was evading the law there. I am sure they (Mexico) will be happy with the offer he is giving.
TheOaf66 replied: I think it is pretty stupid really, who cares if he came down there to get the guy. Did he do anything to disturb Mexico...did he rob, kill, or rape someone no, he stopped a guy who probably would have started doing his whole date rape thing down there so he did them a favor. I think it is just a ploy by Mexico to stand up for themselves a little bit and show that America just can't do whatever it wants in Mexico.
Cece00 replied: I agree. I think Mexico having him extradited was more about them saving face than them really wanting to prosecute him.
ataylorm replied: Don't forget that the Rapists lawyers are the ones that have been pushing Mexico. Most of their energies right now are spent of getting him back to Mexico so they can use that to get their client off. They said so in an interview.
Crystalina replied: He was very ready to rape again. In his hotel room they found a duffelbag full of ropes, duct tape, video equipment and enough date rape drugs to keep him busy for quite awhile. Dog got him just in time. The sad thing is that anyone could have went to get him. The Marshals got the same tip that Dog got. He was the only one who followed up on it. I guess if the scum is over there raping we should just ignore it.
TheOaf66 replied: out of sight out of mind...they figured it was Mexicos problem
Christie replied: This whole thing just makes me sick. For anyone who has watched his show, they know that he is a wonderful person with a good heart. He gets criminals off the street, but then tries to help them change their lives. I guess the rapist subject is really sensitive to me because my sister was attacked and raped while she was alone in her apartment a little over a year and a half ago and the person who did it hasn't spend any jail time yet. I watched the special on this too and I'm not clear if he knew that bounty hunting was illegal in Mexico or not, but if he did, I think it's amazing that he would take a risk to get such an evil, disgusting man off the streets. On top of having all of that in his hotel room, he also had a hit list of people that he was going to "pay back" for testifying in his trial, so Dog could very well could have save people's lives. I don't think Dog should have to apologize for anything and he shouldn't have to spend any jail time.
Crystalina replied: Oh yea, we can't forget the hit list. Dog was way out of line on that one.
I happen to be a Dog fan ( my kids can't live without watching him or Steve Irwin) but whether it was Dog or anyone else what was done does not justify jail time, bail money or an apology. Mexico should be thanking him for getting that *@#$^ off the streets. I know that there are laws that need to be abided by and if Dog gets off with no jail time I will be thankful. An apology is a small price to pay but IMO that is even too much for what stopped from happening. The Marshals had no intention on doing anything unless he came back to the States.
