Supermarket Sampling - Do you try it before you buy it??

msoulz wrote: We were in the store today and I saw a woman snacking on some grapes. It made me wonder about how most people feel about the subject.

I don't sample anything at the store (not even stuff set out as samples) as I am not sure who or what is on the item. And with stuff like grapes I feel guilty because I haven't paid for it so I don't sample, which has led to buying some not so good grapes so I understand the other side of the coin.

Just curious what others think!

holley79 replied: No because I can't eat any fruits without them being washed.

gr33n3y3z replied: Ewww no they have to be washed first
And if they are nasty I will take them back no big deal there

mckayleesmom replied: Nope....they haven't been washed.......and even if they have samples...who knows how long they have been sitting in that bubble thing......If I saw them just get put out I probably would.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Samples that are left out and prepared as samples, yes. Other things, no. The story above about the grapes makes me shake my head. That is considered STEALING here and you'd get in trouble. If something isn't left out to sample, then I think it's proper ettiquette to ask a store clerk about sampling instead of just taking.

luvmykids replied:
Same here.

5littleladies replied: Nope. I think it's ridiculous when people just open boxes of things and snack when they walk through the store, but I guess they pay for it when they are done so oh well. Things like grapes though-You just hit on one of my pet peeves! I saw a woman the other day eating grapes as she shopped and that just irks me! You pay for those things by the pound and eating before you weigh and pay is just stealing! Ugh! It ticks me off. rolleyes.gif

sparkys2boys replied: NEVER ever.. ewwwwww first it is not washed and second I think it is stealing to. I hate when people do it.. drives me nuts wacko.gif

luvbug00 replied:

i HATED shopping with my mom because she did that!

i think if you must one grape would be fine but not a bunch. dry.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: There have been several times when I had to open a box of snacks to pacify Thomas to get my shopping done. Or I'll get a 20 oz drink and drink it as I'm shopping. But those are things that are the same price, not based on weight, so I'm fine with that.

When I was little my mom had to give me a banana to pacify me in the store once. She brought the peel to the lady and said, just charge me for a pound! I have come close to that some days, whatever it takes!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I shop at Whole Foods and they have samples set out all the time, all through the store. I think it is gross. I never touch any of it. Even at a nice store like WF. They had a large brie out once and I saw people digging into it with this little cheese knife. Well it was messy, so of course people were using their hands to push the cheese on a cracker. I couldn't get over how gross it was, yet people were still ALL over it! So my answer is no, not even grapes that have been washed and set out on purpose. WF is good about taking back anything you don't like, even opened or half eaten.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: puke.gif No way!!!!!!!!!

But, like Naomi said, a banana, box of crackers, soda is okay with me. wink.gif I just don't like the gross factor of the fruit not being washed. I could care less what anyone thinks of me opening crackers to keep my kids quiet. If they were screaming someone would complain about that. rolleyes.gif I always pay for my items. What I hate is when you see empty coke bottles and bags of chips, half eaten candy bars, etc sitting on the shelves. mad.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
did you do this on purpose?????? rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
rolling_smile.gif Just for you!!!!!!!! thumb.gif rolling_smile.gif

Celestrina replied:
dito.gif They sell snacks and soda where I work and it p***es us off when we see empty containers laying around the store. They are the same people that complain that prices are high. If stores had fewer losses due to stealing, they wouldn't have to raise the cost so much.

Calimama replied: No that's gross. wacko.gif

Nina J replied: lol, of course I eat one of the grapes before I go buying them. It is terrible when you spend a lot of money on grapes and they're disgusting.

Its not like you're not already walking around breathing in peoples dead skin and sweat and other nasties, like a little unwashed grape will do you any harm emlaugh.gif If they're disgusting, I can spend my $5 on something better.
