Summons for jury duty - The process stinks!

coasterqueen wrote: I received a summons for jury duty a couple of weeks ago. The letter said I had to call the weekend before my "summons date" and listen to this recording to see if I have to show up Monday morning. WELL, I was out of town all weekend and apparently the stinkin' recording won't work if you are out of the area code. WTF???? As soon as I hit our area code area the recording worked. Luckily I didn't have to show up this morning but the recording said I have to call every day at 11:15 a.m. and 5 pm the rest of this week to see if I need to come in. Also if at 11:15 a.m. I am told to come in I have til 12:30 p.m. to report to them. WTF??? So all week my schedule is supposed to be up in the air because they aren't for sure whether they need me or not? I have a job, I have appointments, schedules, etc. How in the world am I supposed to function this week if I am not sure each day at 11:15 a.m. if I'm going to be called in immediately or not??? I think this process STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! growl.gif What a way to ruin someones entire week. dry.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: I understand where you are coming from.

But for the 11:15 call in, if needed, you have until 12:30 of that same day? That would seem wierd that they would expect you to show up within an hour of the same day, and not the next day at 12:30.

coasterqueen replied:
Yes, that same day I'd have to show up. So they give you an hour and 15 minutes to reschedule the rest of your day. It's obsurd!

Calimama replied: ohmy.gif Yuck.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I believe in civic duty, but that is expecting alot to have citizens rescedule their entire day at a moments notice. So sorry about that Karen.

cameragirl21 replied: that doesn't really sound fair at all, Karen, hopefully they won't call you in all week and you'll get to live a semi-normal this week afterall. hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: Oh I feel your pain Karen, I was called once for evey friday of the month wacko.gif now if that was not bad I had to call after 5pm on thruday to see if I was to report the next day. My boss was less than thrilled not knowing if I was going to work on friday till after I called and then I had to call him to let him know. I never did have to go.

CantWait replied: WOW that's retarded. That process sounds like an enormous PITA to me. dry.gif

holley79 replied: That stinks. I'm sorry.

ETA: I know this is really sad of me and so unlike me but I used my pregnancy to get out of the first one and breastfeeding to get out of the second. I have been to court enough without being a juror. dry.gif

My2Beauties replied: That is so weird. They don't do it that way in Kentucky, you have to show up when you're summoned and then you're picked out of a slew of people if you fit what the attorney needs for the case, then you have to go point blank, you don't have any time you have to call in and see if you need to be there. unsure.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
That seems really weird. Usually you have to call to see if you have to go in the next day, not that same day. unsure.gif How can they expect you to be able to drop everything on such notice?!

Simplebeliever replied:
iagree.gif

I can't believe people would put up with that type of system. Over here all you have to do is call the morning of your summons to see if your juror group number (?- I'm bad at explaining this - I think that's what it is called) has been selected. If your number has been selected, you go in. Otherwise you can either go about your regularly scheduled day.

I've been fortunate. The only time my group number was called - I had just given birth!

coasterqueen replied: Well I've gotten lucky so far, I didn't have to go in at 12:30 today. Course I had to spend 15 minutes calling the number because it was busy. dry.gif This stinks, I can't believe I have to go through this ALL week. growl.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I'm not sure how ours works bc I have gotten out of it everytime

and once for federal jury where I use to live I told them I was BF and I was at the time so I didnt have to go.

PrairieMom replied: I don't know about your state, but in South Dakota, if you are a BF mom, you can be exempt from Jury duty. wink.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Well I didn't put that on the survey I originally had to do because I think that applies to those who are with their children all day or who are w&p for their babies. KWIM? I don't qualify for either of those. I just have to be home by 5:20 to nurse her which I plan to tell them. happy.gif

A&A'smommy replied: YUCK that is ridiculous!!!! growl.gif

luvmykids replied: What a PITA growl.gif Hope you don't have to go.
