Stupid kid... death mentioned
redplaydoh wrote: My FIL is a train engineer here. He was driving through Rupperswil the other night, passing through the station (not a scheduled stop) at about 80mph and these stupid kids (teenagers) decided to play chicken with the train and see who could jump from platform-to-platform in front of the oncoming train. Lets just say one didn't make it. He was impaled on the coupling hook... looking at my FIL as he got drug under the train. The next thing my FIL felt/heard was crunching, squishing noises as the kid was ripped apart. My FIL managed to get the train stopped just outside the station and prevented this kid's girlfriend from going down the tracks to find him. These kids don't realize what the engineers go through from their stupid stunts. Even when they do make it across to the other platform the engineer almost has heart failure seeing it. Needless to say what the engineer goes through when they don't make it. They also don't realize that the engineer gets charged with manslaughter until it they are proven not at fault through the court system. This is the 5th person my FIL has hit with a train that I know of... and he lives with all of them everyday.
MommyToAshley replied: OMG, I am so sorry... your poor FIL. Those poor parents.
Of all the jobs I often think that I wouldn't want a loved one to have, I never thought it would be train engineer. This just changed my mind.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your FIL, and to the family of that child.
What's really sad is that this is just stupid and senseless.
My3LilMonkeys replied: How terrible! I've always thought of things like that from the perspective of how stupid the kid was...never even considered how it would affect the engineer. That's just awful.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm so sorry for you FIL and the family of that boy. It's a tragedy on both ends and I can't even imagine what your FIL is going through right now! I'm keeping both Families in my prayers!
Our Lil' Family replied: Oh wow how awful! Prayers for your FIL and family...what a terrible situation.
luvmykids replied: OMG! How tragic, I'm so sorry for all involved
lesliesmom replied: How terrible and STUPID. DH's dad was an engineer, not sure if this ever happened to him but I know I've heard the stories of it happening, as well as the cars that get hit trying to make it over the tracks and beat a train. My prayers for your FIL.
redplaydoh replied: Please just remember to teach your children safety around trains... especially if you live near one. It doesn't matter if it's a passenger train line or freight trains... Trains cannot stop quickly. And we can all hope that our education hopefully sinks in their hard little heads so when they're older maybe tragedies like this won't happen.
luvbug00 replied: stuiped idea I feel bad for your FIL to have to witness that
Boo&BugsMom replied: Wow. How tragic, and yes, very stupid. That is beyond words.
kit_kats_mom replied: that's awful. We've had a few fatalaties lately near us in Lakeland lately due to Amtrack trains. I heard a guy on the radio say something like there is a train related death every two minutes...or maybe it was twenty minutes....anyway too often.
Calimama replied: How awful. Your poor FIL.
Cece00 replied: oh that is just horrible. oh my
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Really sad for everyone involved.
Can you imagine the guilt the kids who survived must feel ?
Calimama replied: Yeah, that must be horrible for them.
A&A'smommy replied: wow that is terrible!!!!
My2Beauties replied: My husband is a conductor so he's on the train with the engineers and every enginner he's rode with said they've at least hit one person and killed them whether they are in a car or committing suicide or just wlaking along the tracks not paying attention to how close they are. Those trains take miles and miles to come to a complete stop even at 20 mph. People don't realize how stupid it is to mess with trains. I feel for your FIL and the parents of this child, how horrible. My question is why do they charge them with manslaughter when it wasn't their fault, they don't do that where my hubby works or here in the state of KY. I think that's a little overboard.
redchief replied: I never thought about how stressful a job train engineer can be, nor how much heartache they must live with. What a tragedy. I'm so sorry your FIL must go through this again.
patsy replied: That's one of the most horrible stories i've ever heard. who would jump in front of a train for fun? I was always terrified of them. Probably not rational either, but at least not life threatening.
CantWait replied: That's horrible. I'm so sorry for your FIL. My heart and prayers go out to him
Kentuckychick replied: EXACTLY -- that should be against the court systems, aren't we a country based on "INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY" it sounds like they are working backwords there!
I know I'm a little late on this post anyway, but I'm sorry to hear about your FIL's accident and I hope that he's okay.
When we were in highschool one of our classmates hit a kid that was running back and forth across a busy rode here in Lexington on a rainy night years ago. He never even saw him, only heard the sound. He had to get out of his car and perform CPR on him with the help of some witnesses. And you know what... I killed that kid because he was doing something stupid... it's not comforting.
