Strangeness going on in our house

coasterqueen wrote: I'm really puzzled about this. The girls and/or I have had minor sickness going on since right before Thanksgiving. For me, I remember my laringitis/sore throat/swollen gland sickness started the 1st week of December. I had it FOUR weeks before I ever saw relief. I had it worse than the girls. Theirs at least went away rather quickly, with minor reoccurances here and there in December. Then the last week of December I started feeling normal again and Dh got sick with the same thing. He was sick a few days and back to normal. A few days later I got sick again with the drainage, sore throat, glands feeling very swollen, etc. had it a few days and then gone. THEN this past Friday dh went home because he felt the same thing and just couldn't take it anymore, went home to sleep. I had JUSt gotten over mine a last weekend and BAM I woke up yesterday morning with it AGAIN.

All through this crud Kylie has on occasion complained of her throat hurting, but we could never tell if it was real feeling or not, ya know. Two weekends ago Megan had a 102.5 fever with congestion, lasted 2 days roughly and bam, gone like it never happened. Last weekend Kylie had a 101.5 fever all weekend long and bam, it went away like it never happened and no other symptoms except the fever.

We are so TIRED of whatever this is. Dh and I have not had any fever with this.

What could this be? Is it just the good old fashioned cold? And if so why can't we just get rid of this for good? This has been TWO months off and on for me. I'm so sick of it! Dh and I agreed that if we keep getting this into February we're going to the doctor (edit to add to the doctor, lol). This is just so strange.

Any ideas?

luvmykids replied: I don't know what it is but it sounds like the crud thats been going on around here. We've all finally gotten over it (I think) but everyone we know has been sick off and on since Thanksgiving. I don't know if someone keeps picking it up from work, school, etc and reinfecting everyone at home or if its just one of those lingering things. hug.gif

ediep replied: well, I'd be making a family trip to the doc this week if you aren't all feeling better. I'd also wipe every surface with clorox wipes and wash all sheets and blankets with HOT water.

I sure hope you are all feeling better soon hug.gif

Has the weather been changing a lot there? Here its been 30 one day and 60 the next....Jason always gets a cold when that happens.....sure enough he has been stuffy the past few days

moped replied: We have been sick on and off since November and many people I owrk with too - one girl went to the doctor and they told her it was the virus that can last up to 80 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes 80

I am on about day 15 and feel like i have a whole replase all over again

It sucks and I am sorry your house is going thru the same thing

kayla's mama replied: You are not alone. We have the same stuff. It all started the weekend after Thanksgiving with a week break in Dec. then its here again now. Ugh....I wish we could get feeling better. Its driving me wacko.gif Taken Kayla to the Dr. and apparently they don't believe in meds. growl.gif even though shes had this off and on with us too.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: What kind of heating system do you have in your house? Do you think Maybe something has gotten in there and it's casuing this. It happens all the time in Florida and in Hawaii. Mold grows in the air/heating vents and can cause allergies and sometimes colds. In fact I think I remember them having to close our highschool down because it had gotten so bad up there they needed to clean it out. The only other thing I can think of is you guys just keep passing it back and forth to each other.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: it was like that in our house too. I felt a little sick, no big deal... then a killer sore throat, for a couple days.. then regular gross sick again... then seemed to be gone - then started all over again. Then again... right noew i'm in the "occasionally coughing up mucus" stage. dry.gif

A&A'smommy replied: We have had it too, and it started in november. We are just now getting over it and I FINALLY quit coughing this week. Alyssa JUST started eating normally and stopped coughing again...yes again

ETA: so it would make sense

My DH's Grandma, who watches Cameron, always swears that it's the weather that has gotten him sick. So of course, I'm stubborn and have to know if it's true or not.
When I took Cam to the his Ped. doctor, I asked her if the weather can cause a cold/virus. She said NO, it is a myth. Virus don't spread because of the weather, it has to be contracted from someone who is sick, through the air. It can cause allergies, but not a common cold virus/flu. Just thought I'd pass that info. along.

Our family is sick right now. DH had an upper resp. infection. Soon after Cam & I got sick. Cam is coughing alot, and he has had a 101.00 fever. And a lot of clear mucus, it's draining like a facet! And I have some congestion and a cough. DH & Cam are on antibotics, not me. I'm going to stick this one out. All the kids at my work are sick. Strep throat is going around like crazy!

I was wondering the same thing, if mold has something to do with it. How would you know if your heater needs to be cleaned out? I guess you would have to go up there and check it out? Our central air/heating is only 2 yrs old, is it possible it needs cleaning out? We change our filter once a month.

I hope everyone's families start feeling better. ITA, if my family was sick like that over 2 months, I wouldn't wait, I'd go to the doctors. JMO.

Get well vibes to everyone! grouphug.gif

Jamison'smama replied: We've had it too--mine and DH's turned into sinus infections and I had an ear infection. We both ended up on antibiotics. For me they had me on nasal steroid and Mucinex as well. That stuff works.

The kids had a different virus. Apparently around here there is a fever virus going around--no other symptoms. Jamison had 104.3 and Jack was over 102 but it only lasted a couple of days and they were fine.

I would imagine that Megan and maybe Kylie had that---you should be checked for a sinus infection.

gr33n3y3z replied: Maybe an out break of Mold
It could be under the house in the walls and you may not even see it
Get it checked out

coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. Glad to know we aren't alone. sad.gif Also nice to know that the girls fever thing isn't out of the norm going on right now either.

We have scrubbed our house from top to bottom disinfecting/washing, etc trying to get rid of this thing. We have not changed anything with our furnace, except it broke down in December and we had to have a new circuit board put in, but that's it. We have a special allergen air cleaner contraption that's been on our furnace for years now because of my allergies.

Our house is only ~ 7 years old, we built it ourselves. I guess it's still possible to have mold issues. I'll have Dh go look under the crawl and see if there is anything abnormal down there. We don't have any issues in the basement, I know that.

We actually have someone to scope our air ducts this Friday so we'll see about those.

We all will be taking a trip soon, I think, to the doc that is. For the most part I can't really see the girls having what Dh and I have. Dh and I did pass it back to each other once blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif . That won't happen again. blush.gif I just hate to be put on antibiotics if it's not something that they can treat, ya know.
