luvmykids wrote: I'm posting this in General in case anyone missed it under health the last few times ... We're in countdown mode to April 17. Less than a month away.

Everyone still in? I'm going to join a gym tomorrow and start working out now so when I quit and start to blow up from all the junk food I'll be prepared ....

C&K*s Mommie replied: not a smoker, but BEST of GOOD LUCK to everyone who is going to do this! thumb.gif

luvmykids replied: THANK YOU WE ARE GOING TO NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET

See, just thinking about it gets me all freaked out. But I AM gonna do it!!!! eatcracker.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: Best of luck to you!! I really hope you can quit the habit!! I am not a smoker, but my guy is and he has tried several times--even used chewing tobacco and nothing worked. It is going to be hard. I wish he would quit. He has been smoking since he was like 12 and he is 27 now. He even a two collapsed lungs when he was about 18 or something. I think it is one of the hardest habits to stop. Stop smoking cigs forever vibes coming your way horray.gif
If you are really in the right mindset I think you can do this.

You look great from looking at your sig, why do you need to go to the gym girl!!!!! LOL iloveyou.gif

luvmykids replied:
TY! The last two times I quit smoking I gained 70 pounds and 32 pounds .... granted, I was pregnant rolling_smile.gif I won't obsess over putting on 10 post-smoking pounds but anything over that I have to be prepared for! It's gonna take a lot of Krispy Kremes and candy bars! I eat like I've never seen food when I can't smoke.

My DH smoked and chewed forever too, he finally quit about 2 years ago but is still hooked on the gum.

kayla's mama replied: I'm an EX-smoker and wanted to send all the quit smoking vibes to you!!!!!!

I know what you mean about the packing of the pounds. I used to munch on carrot sticks when I would get a bad craving. One day I ate awhole bag of 'em and didn't realize it til the end of the day blink.gif

luvmykids replied:
Did you go cold turkey or use the gum or a patch?

Insanemomof3 replied: I am still in. thumb.gif Already less than a month???? ACK! LOL

kayla's mama replied:

When I was pg I quit cold turkey. When she was 2 months old I started up again blush.gif

We used the patches. They worked pretty well. I slept with mine on and I always had the most vivid, bizarre dreams ever. I always have crazy dreams but those were wicked. It worked for us this past time. When we had a craving or grouchy we just looked at Kayla and said we are doing it for her wub.gif That was our main motivator.

You guys can do it. You just need to get your mind set on it.

I'll give you guys 110% in support wink.gif

And I have a bridesmaid dress to fit in on May 6th. blush.gif Ok, here I am giving excuses!!! tongue.gif I know if I do it, I have to make up my mind. So I'll let you know if I'm in or not. happy.gif

But just know either way I go, I will support your ladies 100%!!! I'll be your biggest cheerleader. thumb.gif

Nina J replied: I'm an ex-smoker and just wanted to wish everyone luck. I smoked for nearly 10 years (from when I was 13 ohmy.gif to when I was 23). I quit cold turkey. It's very hard, but worth it. The improvments you start to feel after even a week are amazing, you'll be so surprised at how much smoking really does affect your health.
I wanted to offer some advice aswell. Cravings are the worst, and I still get them now occasionaly. But remember that they going away, just sit out the 10-20 minutes and have a mint or chew some gum. It's a mental thing. You'll probably want something sugary, I chewed on carrot sticks. But everyday I allowed myself something sweet, even if it was just a peice of chocolate, and it helped. But don't go overboard.
Remember that smoking is more addictive than heroin, and if you don't succed quitting on your first attempt, don't worry. For the first week when I quit, I would slip up and have a cigarette. I kept a pack in the house, huge mistake. Throw away your cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays and anything involved with smoking. And also, you might, like I did, do certain things that involved a cigarette. After dinner I'd sit down and smoke. If you do that aswell, after dinner go and have a jog or something. And when a craving hits, distract yourself by doing anything. And in the days before you quit, cut back. Wait for an extra hour in the morning before you light up, because the little things leading up to quitting like that do help.

Sorry if I'm imposing here, but I wanted to give my advice blush.gif Good luck!

mommymonster replied: Good Luck!

PrairieMom replied:
Ann, I'm telling you now to quit. you have no choice. wink.gif laugh.gif Your health is way more important than fitting into a certian dress for just one day. YOU CAN DO IT! cheerleader.gif cheerleader.gif cheerleader.gif I'm going to be y-all's personal cheerleader! laugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: Good luck! thumb.gif

I'm an ex-smoker and will be here if you need me for anything. hug.gif

JP&KJMOM replied: Yes Monica I am still in! Of course I am feaking but I am gonna do it. I think we have enough cheerleaders here that we all can do it. I started walking on my treadmill last week for the same reason's you are going to the gym. rolling_smile.gif

I know Jimmie (BACsMOM) is in too.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I am not a smoker but I will be a cheerleader.gif

BAC'sMom replied: You know I'm in!!!! thumb.gif

I actually stopped the 30th, then I got the news about my Uncle dying and I fell off the wagon when I was driving home from San Antonio. I stopped at the store had a quick smoke then hauled a$$ home to my Mom. I know it was no excuse but I was worried about my Mom. And you girls (Monica and Karen) didn't even notice my post. BOOHOO rolling_smile.gif

Anyway I think I am going off cold turkey. I just went and got tons of gum and candy those few days I was off. Did pretty good until I got to San Antonio but hey with San Antonio traffic it's a wonder I didn't cause me to drink. :rollsmile:Then I had to drive in Houston a few days later! wacko.gif I couldn't wait to get back to my little bity town!

luvmykids replied:
I'm sorry, I hate to miss those posts! blush.gif Belated hugs and thoughts for you and your family! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif How is your mom holding up?

I'm proud of you for starting early thumb.gif You have more guts than I do! I'm putting it off until the last possible second! I'll probably be smoking 8 cigarettes at 11:59 on the 16th!

Nina, all really great help, thank you! biggrin.gif

JP&KJMOM replied: My thought too Monica! I will set my alarm to get up and smoke at 11:59 rolling_smile.gif !

BAC'sMom replied:

It’s crazy huh? And now all of those college nuts are headed MY way for Spring Break @ South Padre! For the next 3 weeks our population goes way up. I heard on the news they had a shooting on the beach last night. I wonder if that was alcohol related. KWIM.

CAMSMOM1 replied:

I know, I gotta do it. I had no problem quiting when I was pg with Cam. But for some reason, it's harder to do for yourself. KWIM? I've smoked on and off since I was 16. I quit for a total of 3 years inbetween. I know I can do it, but this time it seems so much harder. sad.gif And I know myself, I have to get in the right set of mind to do it. So it gives me a month to pump myself up and get ready. I just hate to see myself gain even more weight. That always happens when I quit. That sounds shallow, but it's true. blush.gif I know the benefits to quitting, so I just need to bite the bullet and do it. And if we all quit together, you guys better watch out! We might be a little MOODY for awhile! rolling_smile.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: I stopped 2 years ago. I was in the hospital for a week, and after that I decided to not smoke again.

It was hard, I had to take the triggers away. The things you do that make you want a cigarette. Don't get over full, don't drink until you know you can do so w/out a smoke etc.

I still want one till this day, but I say no.

You can do it, and you will be amazed at how much you feel. How much cleaner your house, car, porch smells and feels.

You know I sent my kids to school smellign like smoke. I know I did.. I hate that part of my life!

My Step Daughter's Mom smokes...when she gets in the car I can smell it on her and all her clothes. She can't help it, but I realized her friends and everyone can smell her also. I did that to my kids too!

mom21kid2dogs replied: Not a smoker but I'll cross everything I've got in hopes that this lifestyle change goes well for all of you!!!! love2.gif

Cece00 replied: Good luck! My DH quit smoking a few months ago, I am so proud of him!
